That's awesome Wally. I'm jealous.

Damn... I wish I had room to build one of the dozens of models I have stashed away in the attic.

Behold! The AMX of a thousand colors is complete!

I pulled my other completed AMX model down to do some comparison shots. The red one is "box stock" including the Hurst Dazzler mags and the Gen 1 AMC motor. The green one I did 4-5 years ago as an attempted "factory stock". It has a Gen 2 AMC motor, washer fluid bag, wired distributor, the grill cut to match the real cars, Magnum 500's, and other details like the mirrors, master cylinder, and shifter.

Bitchin' Brat, Wally!

Awesome AMX, Javelin!

I'm still slogging away here. The black paint on the Saleen's interior parts keeps coming out gloss in spots and flat in others. I think I'm turning the corner.

The Cougar, well, it took me a whole day to find the rearview mirror on the parts tree, but otherwise she's on track. Unless I get glue all over the place when trying to glue the unwieldy bumpers on. laugh

Thank you! I think having to save this one forced me to have better skills. Taking good photos helps, too. blush

The Gen 1 AMC was the first 327. You can use that to win some bets at a car show! You could also get Bendix fuel infection on it in 1957.

Nice work on what is a mediocre kit. I can't recall if I ever had one of those kits. I did have a Hurst SC/Rambler but never built it. Sold it at a swap meet or on Ebay decades ago. As I remember it was pretty heavily detailed and I think the trunk lid was even separate?

AMC made some really cool cars. I still kick myself for not buying the '68 Javelin for $250. V8, 3 speed. It needed a door (hit) and in those pre-internet days of the 1980s finding one was a daunting task.

Did Jo-Han also make a Rebel Machine kit? I wonder who has their dies these days.

Thank you! Yes, you are remembering correctly. JoHan made a 69 SC/Rambler kit that was really well detailed including an opening trunk lid. They also made a 70 Rebel Machine that was promo based like the AMX with the molded in suspension. Testor's of all companies ended up with a few of the molds, like the SC/Rambler and the AMX, but most of them have been lost for 30+ years.

The interior paint and decaling is underway.  The exterior paint prep is also underway.  I will have something for Friday it seems.  The body prep was going great until I added the mirrors and 3 piece rear wing.  I've busted the wing off once and each mirror once with sanding.  I'm trying to avoid big glue blobs to hold them on, which is hard.

If I have time, I'd like to add the rollbar (not in the kit), and have it painted body color like a real GT3.  I guess not all GT3s had them from the factory.....  but most do.  Also not all GT3s have the lower rear spats which are a love / hate body mod.

US models have never had the rollbar as an option because it violates some US specific safety rules.

Tequipment, the manufacturer, must sell a bunch of them then.

If you put a little dab of white glue at the mounting points you can carefully pick it off later to glue things like mirrors and spoilers on.

I was going to add some sort of "wrong side of the tracks" joke here, but never mind.

Prime, sand, prime sand, prime, sand, prime sand....  lay down one lil coat of color and a casting ridge pops out like a sore thumb.  I hope it's sanded off now.

Two things.

Thanks all:  this lil silly plastic model contest has me feeling better about being couped up and tackling other things too (see RR in photo).  I got it up from old house and hobby room is looking nice.

And lastly, one more wet sand and one more color coat and I think I'm done with color on this one.  It's looking decent, but far from perfect.

Low light = very grainy photo.  I'm going to have to borrow the wife's phone for the final photos.

Thanks.  I'm going for a fairly nice finish so I can get some good photos.  I've been masking windows for the black borders and am about to do the instrument cluster decals.  I did another coat of color, and I may need a tiny bit more :(.  Then I can do the, license plates, decals and clearcoat it.  After the clear I'm gonna buff it.  I don't have a cool engine bay to show like my competition.  Every part I need for the assembly is painted except the lights.  I've always had trouble with glue and painted lights.

I'm hoping to get good photos Friday before we head out of town for the weekend.  We need a vacation from our house.

Here is what it looks like after a wet sand and more color.  Not sure if I should do one more coat in the morning or not.
