Ive had this idea to move my lower balljoint mounting point on my control arm, forward and outward to gain caster and camber.
Provided with proper welding and reinforcement (not a problem on my end)...any reason to no do this? I was thinking half inch in both directions which hopefully does not put the axle out of its range.
No reason not to move it once you can make it strong enough. There are aftermarket LCAs with this kind of adjustment. Only thing to watch out for is to ensure the tie rods have enough adjustment range to gain as much width as you're adding to the control arms.
Depending on the control arm, it might be better to do that from the inboard side of the arm.
Cut at the red lines and move forward and out as needed. And then fill and reinforce the cut marks as needed
On my Rabbit GTI, we fit slightly offset lower control arm bushings to improve caster. Is something like than an option here?
There are extended ball joints available for Miatas, not sure about other cars.
MX3 GS LCAs are the hot ticket for BG chassis cars.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
We run a 10mm rear bushing mount spacer to gain caster...which results in 0.8⁰ of caster in my cars particular case.
Ive tried finding taller BJs for another car to maybe get a taller one for improved bump steer but my car doesn't suffer from that much since its essentially stock height

Wouldn't that just get you more camber, and not caster?
In reply to mainlandboy :
Yes, but you can also fiddle with the eccentrics on the lower arm of a Miata to shove the ball joint forward a bit to gain caster. The lengthened ball joint gives you back the camber. It's a balancing act.

What car are you trying to do this to?

Well that escalated quickly. Looks great!
It will be interesting once you get this on an alignment rack to see what you get.
Thanks guys. I just realized the picture doesnt so any detail. Ill take more pictures tomorrow. I have a side gusset on the inside edge. Might add one on the outside.
