Presently, Dad drives the truck and Mom drives my E30 almost every day. When school starts again, she will need a car that can carry her and the 4 kids in the carpool. School is 30 miles away on the interstate. She doesn't want a minivan, suv, big wagon, etc.
So, we are looking for a car that gets at least 25 mpg, is extremely comfortable for 5 people, has a little personality, and is super reliable.
I keep saying P71 (I've wanted one for a while) and am trying to convince her that they don't smell like fugitive, are easy to park, get good milage, and are pleasant to drive. I'm the only one in the family that has driven one.
Anybody else willing to convince her? Or suggest a different car? Almost any age/ reasonable price goes.
Just thought of something else:
Mom! Think of how much quickrete and bodies would fit in the trunk!
Quick Columbus CL search:

*EDIT...hang on a sec....

On that same note... who would stop a cop car to look in the trunk?

I hate ex cop cars (just because the drivers of them always seem to tail gate me as I do the speed limit, even though I was doing 10 over until I saw them in my rear view mirrors), but that white 2001 Ford with the tinted windows looks very cool.
You know you want one!
Somebody convince the Suddard's to come back up here for a weekend trip, I'll let em drive the P71 home. You'll LOVE it!
Oh, and BTW, you missed out. That 6.0L LS-engined/4L80E P71 on eBay SOLD for $1925. That's Challenge money. With 295's on the back...
i have an 02 CVPI. Buy it! Pay a bit extra and ill deliver it!

Nope. LS1 > 340.
Turbos on the LS1 are optional, at Margie's discretion.
I would totally drool over any LS1 Volvo wagon, especially in white and lowered to mirror the touring cars. Add a turbo and I'd probably faint. That sounds like a wicked awesome family car!
It won't part traffic or get point-bys like push-bumpers though...

So, what is it about your family that makes a cop car (sans door locks in the rear seat) a good choice for the kiddos??
Oh wait...you're a Suddard.

i would agree, but it would have to be a manual version, and those were only available in 05-06 with the turbo. the turbo/5 speed/wagon was 05 only. so basically they're nigh impossible to find

actually, i ran across this last night:
http://houston.craigslist.org/ctd/1265224556.html
who could say no to a brown volvo wagon?
Look at the Kia Rondo and Mazda 5. Stay with me here, both seat 5 easily, the Mazda seats 6 and the Kia seats 7. I know they are practically giving the Rondo away with the current sales crisis. $16K for a new, loaded 7-passenger vehicle? Crazy.
If Mom puts a priority on practicality and space, go for the Rondo. It is bigger and more powerful and has tons of room. Makes schlepping kids, dogs and groceries a breeze. They have a big V6 and a manu-matic, are kinda fun to drive if you just stepped out of a SUV, and with some tinted windows and rims, they look kinda....different.
If Mom put higher value on driving (hmmmm, I wonder) then go for the 5. You can get a real 5-speed with the smaller motor, and the handling is just like a Mazdaspeed 3. Almost. Kinda. Well its better than anything else with similar cargo capacity. It is the sportiest mom-mobile out there!
I also hear good things about the Honda Fit. It is smaller and more expensive than the other two, but it is a Honda. Which is a good thing in my book.
Come on, you know you want one Marjorie...
Mom happy sport car fun matrix love.
Well let's see... Tommy will be driving so the boss lady will only need seating for four total. Two of the kids are rather smallish so they can share a seat belt, so she will only need seating for three.
May I suggest:
I blame Ward.
I've always loved the 5, especially in dark metallic colors, and that Rondo is surprisingly cool looking!
But...
i've begun a hate/love/more hate relationship with my P71. mostly because my old caprice wagon with bigger engine and more weight got 26-27hwy mpg and the best i can pull out of this POS ford is 21 with all systems go and fresh plugs.
if i had the cash i'd have been bidding on the LS engined one.

You'd better give Tommy a ride in the back of a cop car instead of him finding out first hand.
If you can find one with the cage, all the better. Tommy would look good in the back.
