My wife and I are thinking about a trip out there in August.  We'd likely only attend the event for a single full day and spend the rest of the trip exploring some other Cali areas.  Would Saturday be the best day to attend, or are the other days equally cool?

who's been?

what tips do you have?   Thanks!

What other events do you plan on going to ?

To me walking around the pits is the best thing and owners/drivers are less stressed on Thursday/ Friday

Or if you are in town the weekend before there is the Pre Historics

We'd likely fly into San Diego. I want to check out the Salton Sea area and the LA slums/skid row.  Wifey wants to see Hollywood hills and Santa Monica.  Laguna Seca would be the final destination and fly out from San Jose.

I think Saturday is traditionally the busiest day at whatever-Historics-are-called-now (I think it's officially the "Monterey Motorsports Reunion") because many people go there on Saturday and then to the Pebble Beach concours on Sunday.

Good eats and drinks as I recall. Not far from the track.

Agreed. If you want to see the machinery, then Friday is your day. If you want to see the racing then Saturday is the best.

The Sunday of pre-reunion is my choice. Less crowds and easier to get to see what you want to see and still see some really cool stuff.

Welp, just realized this overlaps the WV Hillclimb, so maybe Laguna Seca next year.  Thanks Gents.

Oh no! That means that you'll also miss the Salton Sea and the LA slums!

lol!!  I've seen both previously.  That type of stuff is way more interesting to me than typical tourist trap destinations.

Yeah, but that part of the state is darn hot that time of year. I like hitting desert destinations in the cold season.

It's 97 degrees here in FL today.  Cold weather scares me more than hot!

One of my favorite vacations was traveling through the 4 corners region (NM, AZ, UT and CO) around New Years. It's great to go to popular tourist destinations and only have yourself, a couple of stray dogs and a German or two (They seem to like winter vacations as well). And I'd rather be bundled up than dripping sweat - unless there's a nice body of water handy.

I like the sound of that too!

We found some friendly stray dogs at the abandoned Rock-a-hoola water park a couple years back.
