I usually stay in Seaside, it's closer to the track and the hotel rates there are less then staying in Monterey which is less then 5 minutes away. I usually stay at the Embassy Suites in Seaside.

Used to be some places in Marina which is next to Seaside. If you don't mind a little longer drive there is Salinas just inland with more reasonbly prices. The drive over to Laguna Seca from Salinas used to be pretty scenic. Not sure how it is anymore as I was last in that area a lo-o-ong time ago. My first military duty station was Fort Ord which no longer exists.
