So, I wish I had snapped pics, but in a parking lot in San Jose last weekend I saw a car I had NEVER seen before. Getting close, badging said "Monza" on one side and "GSE" on the other.

Quick Wikipedia search shows these as a Vauxhaul... what was it doing on the road here?

Mind you, this is California, so near as I know, we don't have the 25 year exemption that the rest of the country does.

You still have the import exemption, but the cars would have to pass smog/emissions if they were from 74 or newer. Did it have Cali plates?

Yep, these are Opel Monzas (sold under the Vauxhaul banner in the UK, hence the 'Vauxhaul' search hit).

They were Opel's top of the line Coupe/Hatchback in the 80s.

It's probably licensed as a '71 Torino. ;-)

I certainly wouldn't mind having one but IMO not worth the hassle to bring one in... my (now former) Bitter SC shares the same basic chassis and is even more attractive... without the registration issues.
