Mopar wowed attendees at this week’s SEMA show by announcing the Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI Engine and Kit, a 1000-horsepower beast loosely based on the Hellcat engine. (The “Hellephant” moniker is a nod to the original Mopar 426 Hemi, which was nicknamed "elephant" thanks to its prodigious power and size.)
At SEMA, the …

Why.
I'm legit asking. How many new levels are needed? How many new engine combinations, Challenger types and subdivisions, and boxes to check do we need? How many SCAT packs and monikers? It's one thing to be pushing your technology and engineering to new heights; it's another when your company has no stability and your prime seller is running a body and chassis nearly 10 years old.
I love to death that Dodge is smashing OEM numbers and expectations, but I hate how it's a one-upping game only with themselves. At this point, I just look at this and go 'eh'.

This isn't going into an OEM application. This is an aftermarket crate motor.
In reply to GIRTHQUAKE :
why put coilovers on?
why put sticky tires on?
why put lighter wheels on?
why put a turbo on?
why reduce weight?
why add aero?
why do an engine swap?
because sometimes its just fun to do hoodrat stuff with your friends.

That will fix a Prowler.
2800lb's with 1000HP. Yeath that would do it. Thought there are a few hellcat prowlers running around now so its not so far fetched.
Also MOPAR while you are still high on cocaine build a 2nd gen Prowler for me.
Mastodon would have been a much better name.
While I don't share GIRTHQUAKES dislike of the craziness, I will say I have driven a few high HP cars on the street, for me, it does get a little old after awhile.
I want the car to hook up and go, I don't care about doing rolling burnouts at triple-digit speeds.
Phew! For a minute there I thought they might be doing something crazy, like introducing a new car design. Good to see Dodge is sticking with its tried-and-true "just make more horsepower available and keep making decade-old car designs." 'Murica!

I'm just trying to figure how to get the FMV low enough for a recoup...

Seriously, I do see your point, but on a planet we're rapidly killing, which in turn kills us, ...maybe I'd better shut up before I go political/dark.

10 years, 100,000 Miles, 3 burnouts, or 5 drags races whichever comes first.

Kind of seems like the drag races should be more and the burnouts should be less, but that’s one hell of a warranty!
honestly, if they don’t specify how long a burnout is, with 1000 hp, I could make a burn out last a lifetime
I, for one, welcome our new 1000HP crate motor overloads.
Are they selling any performance upgrades for this thing?

Somebody should do a really fast Dodge for the next challenge, and call it the Heffalump
Who wants to go back to the times when the fastest Mustang had like 245 hp? Not me.
Why is that guy in the middle up there? I was on board till they included him in the photos there.....
