More stupid car "accesories"..

Just when I think I've seen the dumbest street car trend ever, a new one comes along to take its place. Seen these yet?

I have yet to see them in person.. but honestly, what kind of glue can hold up to brake temps?

I don't know, but it looks as if they used about a pint of it.

I had a guy bring his Volvo S40 in for a brake job to my shop with those things on.

It was some type of RTV high temp that held it on I think and yes there was gobs of it. So much so that I had to call him up to tell him that we would have to break them off in order to retract the rear actuating pistons.

Is it wrong that I took some pleasure in that?

The whole car was definitely one of those that look like it has some decent aesthetic mods from about 20 feet away. Then you realize its a hack job. He kept proudly telling me how he avoided the high cost of the normal fake Brembo kits by getting a Hong Kong knock off through eBay.

I saw some, on a C5 corvette at the Dream Cruise this year.

Reminds me: My brother's college buddy has a kid. Kid turns sixteen. He's going to buy a honda and "modify" it. Dad says to my brother "kid here bought a Honda and is going to 'modify' it." "Cool!" says my brother, "Let me know if I can help!" Kid says, "well, I've got a 'body kit' on the way and need help installing it." Brother says "Uh, yeah, let me know when you want to make it faster. Sell that body kit and let's use the cash on some suspension goodies."

Kid gets the body kit. Scratches head. Takes to local "Yo yo yo Customs" shop. Drives for a couple days before one of the side-skirts falls off. They had attached every piece with double-sided tape. Awesome.

Wow, I didn't realize these things had been around so long. I guess I must be hanging around with the right crowd if I hadn't seen them before now.

Me either... Personally, I think hondas look best lowered with nice rubber and lightweight rims. and NO other exterior mods..

ironic that it's posted on a forum that is mostly V-dubbers....the kings of non-functional styling who more or less hype up the "patina" (rusted hood) trend and the "strech and poke" 215 tires on a 10" wide wheel thing....

I'm gonna get some brake covers, but don't want Brembo. Wonder if they have some other brands available ;)

Funny, you mention those non-functional styling mods. The AutoZone next to my work has several employee cars that have all of those, 3 of which are Miatas.

I also recall the store I worked at where one of the mechanics had like 1000 cool points for his FC RX-7 with LS1 swap until he starting adding all those mods mentioned as above. Stretched tires on Enkei RPF1's are such a waste.

Tastelessness knows no marquee bounds.

My VW does have pantina though, but then again 25 years of outside storage will do that.

I wonder if the fake sunroof would stick to my Miata's soft top. Just for E36 M3s and giggles.

Hell, I just wonder if the fake sunroof is big enough to keep the rain out of the real one on my Mk.2 Golf..
