I'm curious what this hot Yaris is going to be like that Toyota is working on. Supposedly it's going to be 200hp and using a supercharger. Basically the engine in the current Lotus Elise (217hp) and the spiritual successor of the 2ZZ-GE.
I'm curious if it will be the curse of America again and we don't get it like usual.
They are saying 210hp. But also, pretty much confirmed it's not coming to the US

Fiesta ST hands down. It has 80hp on the next-best car, the (non-boosted) Mini.
That was true for last year. It's only 24hp over the Forte SX.
Really? That's cool. I think that car has potential, they need a sport version with 200hp!
The new ones do. 201hp 1.6TGDI.

I'm here to say if it were my money, GTI in GS
I'll second that. I don't know why people are overlooking the Performance Package GTIs, the limited slip gives it a huge advantage over the ST.
Reading this, I'm even more confused that my non-S F55 Mini is in GS. It's got more room than a Fiesta (or a Focus) at least...
Really hoping that some proper tires help with the feeling that Mini worked closely with Logitech to craft the steering feel.

How do you define seating 4 adults? Able to fit into the car or want to sit in the car?
Does the Fiesta really fit the latter category? I have only been in one a time or 2 but don't recall it as having a rear seat that would allow for comfortably fitting 4 adults.
I have learned on threads such as these to let them meander abit before pulling them back.
Yeah the Fiesta ST won't hold 4 adults for longer than a short hop without a remake of Saw happening.
From what I have seen of the S3, RS3 may be another contender for competitive car that holds 4 adults. Not sure what they are classed against, but this little thing is a beast.

So what you're saying is there's no chance....

GTI did come in 4th in GS nationals, behind 1-3 ST
Note that the 4th place GTI was a 2-door. A 4 door did finish 10th though.
The guy who finished 5th in a FoST and the guy who finished 9th in a GTI are both in my region. The GTI guy routinely beats the FoST guy at local events, he just had a bad second day at nationals.
The two cars are very close in capable hands.
You didn't mention budget; I wonder how a Panamera Turbo is classed? What about an M5? I bet autocrossing 4500lbs would be at least amusing.

Both GTIs had a bad second day. The 4th place one was leading the class on the first day.
In reply to dculberson:
Amusing to everyone but the guy paying for tires and brakes
Edit: Seeing what is classed in HS now lets me know that my mazda3i will be bottom of the pack this weekend. But what's the fun of buying a Mazda if it doesn't get any exercise?

For your local tire dealer...
So GTI, FoST, Civic Si, WRX. FiST if your family works in Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory.

Just curious, how is the '05-ish Legacy GT as an autocross car? Obviously it isn't Nationals level good, but can it be made to perform reasonably well? I've been eyeballing them and I really like how they look and it's easier to find one of those less-thrashed on than a WRX

I was gonna say only one person showed up that knew how to drive, but 1 out of 4...and one is supposed to be the new Autocross darling Camaro with the 1LE pack.

Jay Griffin is an old-timer like me who used to do really well in a CRX, so I know he knows how to drive. He was, however, on the OEM tires in a brand new car. Also, the slippery course made AWD an advantage. Despite that, I did have 3rd overall on PAX out of 103 and fastest stock time overall. The more I learn the car's nuances, the faster it's going. On the overall scale, the only Corvette that was faster than me was an STU-classed one, and that was only by .3 seconds. I have a feeling the FoRS is going to surprise the class at Nationals this year.

Last year I co-drove my dad's Spec B on all season tires to a 31/102 PAX finish.

Since you know who runs the car, and know how to run the car, maybe you can answer whey it isn't quicker in a straight line.
I mean the FoRS should stomp the STi in every metric, yet all the numbers I have seen bring it to a draw.
Gearing and weight are the only answers I can come up with. What say you?

I intend to find out! Just picked up this gently used example from on older woman a few days ago:
I was pleasantly surprised how it moves and feels smaller than it looks. If I could still drive like 20 years ago I suspect it could be competitive locally and it certainly has enough room for passengers...

Nice. I've been considering doing a D/Street Legacy GT. I also see that Cobb offers a Stage 1 kit that boosts power output pretty substantially for $900
In reply to Flight Service:
Gearing and weight are most probably the correct answers, though I wouldn't totally rule out some pretty optimistic horsepower ratings. The magic of the car is in its handling and traction, not in its straight-line speed, though it is plenty quick. My Sentra felt stronger in the midrange and weaker at the top.
In reply to jstein77:
I know Ford does that power limit thing in the lower gears to prevent it from breaking stuff.
Ahh, the modern DI engine.
