"For sale is a USED 275 GTB V12 bare engine block with liners and cylinder heads. The engine number is 07485 type 213 and the internal number is 590/64. This item has been in storage for almost 40 years. We have visually inspected it and did not see any damage, but there are many parts missing and it will require work."

A steal at $175,000.

I think that has been for sale for a very long time. Other than a Tucker engine I'm not sure if there are any car engines worth that kind of money I can think of.

Looks very similar to the 62 250 GTE motor I tore down a few weeks ago.

Cool thing. Built for revs. even the rod bolts were hollow. Took forever to break down since every bolt was cotter pinned and removing just the 24 rod bolts was a 3 hour task.

i don't think that should even be called a "short block", since there are none of the spinny bits inside the engine- it's just a block, heads, rockers, and valve covers.

I wonder what it would cost to just have one cast? I know, then it wouldn't be a "real" one, but you could actually drive it without having to worry about destroying the "real" one. Of course then you're on a slippery slope where it makes sense to just build a perfect replica and mothball the genuine car in a vault so that nobody can ever touch it. And since the new car is just a replica you could do a few modern upgrades and not feel too bad. Perhaps I'm not cut out to be a high end collector.

Isn't anyone going to "steal" it from him?

Does he have more than just the one? I don't want to buy one if I can't get more.

PS - ditchdigger - Hobby or job?

Just $175,000? That engine block would make a great table.

I thought it was going to be one of those Greek CNC'd aluminum 4g63 blocks that will withstand TEXASwhp.

This, if someone somehow cracked their block, and needed an original engine block to maintain the vehicles value, I am not surprised....

That said, would the GRM answer be take a 427 Ford Cammer for $33k and stuff in the 275 ferrari?

Nice when it works out this way.

Soon as I'm done with lunch, the 1200hp all-aluminum GN engine gets lit for the first time.

1200 hp gn engine would be interesting in a ferrari. if only to make self indulgent wieners cry.

They're not really "fun" to drive in the winding-road sense, just the "MY BRAINS ARE IN MY FEET!" ludicrous-speed sense. Which is fine, because the cars aren't fun to drive in the winding-road sense either, so it's a perfect match.

You don't need that to make TEXASWhp- all you need is a sleeved Stage3 Buschur.
