I've had my OZ Ultraleggeras on my Mazdaspeed3 for less than a month and already they are covered in copious amounts of brake dust, esp. the fronts. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience cleaning wheels with the Mothers Mini Powerball or Black Magic Bullet. Also, what sort of wax/polish would be good on painted alloys? Would the same wax I use on my cars also be good for the wheels?

DON'T!!!!

The Powerball is the biggest POS marketing gimmick crappy freaking product I've ever been sucker into buying. They SUCK.

I have the original + Mini in my garage. I'll ship them to you free and then you can rant about their crappiness, too.

OK, so no Powerball or any similar doohickey. What's the best alternative for wheel nooks and crannies, then? I have a wheel brush but I'm concerned the bristles may be too stiff and damage the finish. What about the wax/polish?

I found that shop towels work really well. And call me lazy, but I only polished the outer face of the rim--I let the brake dust in the nooks and crannies look like shadows.

Not quite the answer you are looking for but the other day I decided to wash my DD. Now understand the woes of life got ahold of me and its been more than a year since I washed it. My front wheels were black from brake dust.

I've used alot of the acidic/toxic overpowered wheel cleaners and never been very happy. But I needed something so I tried Mothers all wheel cleaner, it said non acidic so I thought it would suck but it was worth a shot.

HOLY CRAP, this stuff, spray on, let sit 30 seconds hose off....shiny wheels. Mine were so bad I did need to take a nylon brush to a few thick deposits but they wiped off like nothing. Highly recommended if brake dust is your main woe.

Use a dedicated wheel cleaner (and even the Mother's stuff is good) and some microfiber detailing cloths or a wheel brush (should be soft bristled). I like old toothbrushes, personally.

After throughy cleaning, clay the wheels (If powdercoated) and then apply wheel glaze from autogeek

lol the weld prostars I got for the s10 where so bad on the back side that I had to use a brass wire brush on my drill to get some of them off...

for polishing I used a polishing pad on the drill... but these wheels where so nasty that it took a while even with the drill to get them clean and then polished... they are polished alu so no clear coat to worry about on mine...

thanks for the heads up on the power ball stuff... I was considering giving one of them a try for the other 3
