Well, folks, my 3rd episode is up.  It's much better production standards, resolution, and I hope sound.

https://youtu.be/uGwU8GGNXCA

I'm down to about 1hr10min editing time for each minute of content.  I also need more B roll for voiceovers, especially as my in-car isn't up to scratch, either content or recording quality.  I've certainly learned a lot.

As usual, please like, subscribe, share, and provide feedback!

Thanks all.

Adrian

Video quality looks good, watching it at 1080p it looks like there might be a little room to improve quality some more with lower compression but not much. Later I'll have to fire up the gaming PC to see how it looks at 4K.

One note on editing, when cutting together two clips of yourself talking, blank or quickly fade the audio on the clip you're cutting away from starting just before the video transition so that you don't get bits of speech you didn't want coming through as the transition happens.

Also a unidirectional muffled mic will help with recording speech outside in noisy environments, your new lapel mic might match these specs.

Some excellent points.  Thanks.  Some of them I have already done.  Brain fried from too many hours in front of the computer.  I'll explain and ask advice tomorrow.  I really appreciate the input.

much improved. The sound is like... some heavy duty sound reduction maybe? I generally like to apply all the filtering in post if possible. Things like NR or smoothing in camera rarely is as good as you can accomplish in post.

So the issue that Gameboy mentioned about some of the voice transitions.  The ones you are hearing I've already edited.  The issue is my enunciation and speed of talking in some cases.  You can edit clips down to .01 second intervals on iMovie.  The issue is that some of the extra words you are hearing are within that 0.01 seconds of the word I need to keep.  So if I cut it back that 0.1 seconds, you lose the end of the word I want to keep.  I taper the audio down, then up on the next clip, but I didn't leave enough space between words to eliminate it without cutting off the end of the word I wanted to keep.  So, the issue you mentioned is real, but I've already edited as well as I am able in iMovie.  That's not to say a pro or a different program wouldn't be better, but I'm not there yet.

Subscribed.

In the Mini episode, your body sways alot as you talk and your hands move too fast. Hold yourself still by leaning on something and keep you arm/hand motions smooth and slow.

Check out the Pontiac Transportation Museum, the good stuff is in the back, but its dark for filming. I'd be happy to give some commentary.

Well I haven't got another episode ready to go.  I was hoping to film another vehicle, but I'm currently flat on my back with ice packs.  I want to try and get a couple of review videos out before I cover things like my garage refurb and project cars.  Hopefully in  two weeks I'll get to the kart track for the last weekend of the year with my grandson and get some content there too.

In reply to Gearheadotaku (Forum Supporter) :

Cheers Jeff.  Me moving a lot, is me!  I find it easier to talk to camera that way.  Not sure if I need to tame it or not.

It gets easier in some respects, then things go wrong in other areas.

The latest episode is up.  Driving a friend's hot rod 1940 GMC Pickup.  The production side went better.  Call it two hours of planning and organizing. Five hours from leaving home, picking up the owner, the vehicle,  filming, and returning everything and everyone.  Then about eight hours of editing.  So 15 hours and ready to update.  Well over the last 28 hours I've downloaded/attempted to download the file three times, and uploaded/failed to upload four times, before I had success.  Man, what a PIA, mainly my understanding, once external interference, and once other issues.  But, here it is at last: 1940 GMC pick up review.

And because I wasn't expecting success, I didn't upload my thumbnail, so it automatically autogenerated one.  Doh!

Well after way too long I've got the latest episode up.
https://youtu.be/qwzsWcy4ZZw?si=iXTzh2O6MkDEYqhp

I've sent myself in circles on editing this one and it's suffered as a result. I learnt a lot about planning, or more importantly how my planning was wrong.  Humbling.

Next week's video I've gone about very differently and it's already shot.  I also have a plan for how to go about the editing.  I'm feeling pretty good about it going in.

Well, this is a big week for the channel.  The new episode is up as of a couple of hours ago.

https://youtu.be/ah_mQkk2arU

This is big for me.  Phil Mather, PMRacing on here, reached out to me a few weeks ago with an outstanding opportunity.  Phil works for Bollinger Motors, which I think many people here are probably familiar with.  Bollinger is a start up that got a fair amount of press a few years ago with their prototype B1 and B2.  After the B1 and B2, the company decided to refocus on larger class 4 trucks, and has now released the B4, Class 4, cab-over chassis-cab to be upfitted as needed by their customers.  Unlike so many other start-ups, Bollinger has designed and built vehicles and is now delivering them to customers.

Phil amazingly arranged for me to visit their facility, drive, and film the B4 and a competitor vehicle. This is a huge privilege for my tiny channel, and I'm immensely grateful.  Rather than just promoting the vehicle here and on my Facebook page, I will also be hitting up LinkedIn for a wider, industry, audience on Monday.  Bollinger had zero input on the episode and allowed me to say whatever I wanted with no editorial input

Another huge thank you to Phil and everyone at Bollinger.

Making this one was interesting.  I did far more planning.  I had a 'script' (glorified agenda) to work with, planned shots, etc.  I ended up with over three hours of material. My first rough edit got it down to about 40 minutes.  Then a lot of work to get it down to 20 minutes.  I still have a long way to go, and a new microphone is on the cards to improve consistency.

Quick question.  What do people think is the right time for a video.  Lots of channels I like frequently have 15-22 minute episodes, but other people tell me to keep it to 10 mins.  Also, engagement analytics suggest shorter is better too.

I'm not sure what vehicle is next.  I have a long list, with some people offering some cool cars, but it's mid November, and most sports cars here in SE Mi have been tucked up for the winter, so I'm searching.  Anyone with a new, or close to new, fun car who would be interested in me making a video in the Metro Detroit area, please let me know.

I'm excited for this one, please let me have your honest feedback, but most importantly, please just watch it start to finish!!
