If you use any of these venues you should get ahead of this and warn the venue and protect your club access. Have a club officer contact the venue with a clear warning about the probable noise issues and complaints and point out that your club has NO connection to MSL.

It's my understanding that they were asked several times to tone it down by local officials & MSL laughed it off. When the complaints got back to the venue the following week the venue pulled the plug on the local SCCA region, who by the way has had Sound regulations in force for years and no problem at any other venues.

Are the cars they run stock exhaust? If so, then sound regulations shouldn't really be an issue. Of course, this is also like Laguna Seca and their oppressive sound regulations that cause stock vehicles to fail and cause all sorts of interesting exhaust solutions on race cars...

I want to know how the hell they convinced the Burlington mall to let them run an autocross there! That would be extremely convenient for me if it were available to other clubs as well.

Simple. Money. They are a business that specializes in providing "thrill rides" for people who don't know any better. The Mall gets more foot traffic and people who are in the mall can rent a ride with them while they are shopping and vise versa.

I've seen similar deals with the Chevy Volt, Ford, Mazda, etc. Spread enough money under the Mall's nose, with enough "corporate" polish and they'll let you lots of things.

Show up as a bunch of amateur racers looking to hoon around in their parking lot and generally annoy people....

BTW, up here those events are put on by some of the same people that host Autocross events and are usually connected with the Ferrari and/or Lamborghini clubs plus local servicing dealerships. This means they are put on well by experienced folks and everyone has a good time.

I'd be less concerned about them making a ruckus and more concerned with them setting a false expectation of revenue by the venue.

Once the venue thinks there is this kind of money to be had they are not going to "lend" out their lot.

We lost a site here due to tire noise. Granted, it was the drifters, so they made a lot more noise than the usual autoxer trying to keep his Hoosiers working for a whole season, but...

My favorite is the "build school".

Pay us $2-5k to help us change a clutch on one of our fleet vehicles!

Wow I have been doing it wrong all thover years I was racing. I should have been charging the pit crew guys and girls for the privilege of slaving over the car for hours to let someone else then race it. Humm mm. With that model I can go racing again on the cheap.

I did one of their events in Raleigh a couple of years ago. It was a Father's Day gift and only cost $99 through Groupon. Very short course with about 4 turns. Drove a 360 with paddles and never got out of second and I was not allowed to shift. Their instructor in the passenger seat leaned over and used the paddle. Not worth much other than driving a Ferrari for a few seconds.

Back when we had sound level checks at our local track, the drifters would hit the sound limits from tire noise. Plus it sounds like a constant accident, a very different type of noise for involuntary audience members.
