I've heard of guys gluing rare earth magnets to the back of the bumper cover, glue some felt to the plate to prevent scratches.

It's also the first car we ever bought new and this is what the dirty bits looked like after a year and a half of ownership. That's living outside on a gravel driveway. The entire undercarriage is just as clean. It may be just a Hyundai but I keep my junk clean. I will certainly not be putting any unnecessary holes in it.

There are kits to install the plate on a bracket that screws into the tow hook. Hope that helps. In my part of town I got a note for no front plate when it was just too close to the car in front for the officer to see it. It wasn't fun getting to the car in the morning for my commute and finding a citation there. It was a fix it ticket, no fee but still.^This. Search 'Platypus Mount'
I ordered one of the Craven ones for the MINI. The thread pitch was wrong and it ended up galling the threads. When I contacted them about it they said their whole stock was wrong. They refunded my money, including shipping both ways, though they were a bit snippy about the shipping. I then ordered one from GoMINIGo. It was 100% stainless steel and fit great. No idea whether they have one for the Elantra.
Here in BC we also have mandatory front plates.
The Solstice came with one stuck like an unwanted excrescence on the nose of the car.
How ugly is this?
Some owners use the motorized brackets that hide under the car but come out when you pass a cop, but I just got a different bracket and mounted it lower, and I think it looks much better. If you want to avoid punching holes in the bumper cover, bring a mount up from under the car.
I have front plates on all my cars but the Jamaican MG - there is no place to mount brackets. I thought of hanging it from the grille by a wire and it would flatten under the nose when you were driving......or I could mount it through the grille and it would look like some ludicrous mustache.....

Honda has a giant plastic frame that mounts under the bumper (2 screws). I made 2 brackets and mounted the plate all by itself. The Honda guys at Drive Accord "Flamed" me about how bad it looked when I posted it. It looks a lot better in person.
I'm almost 52 years old and I'm too old to get pulled over for a plate violation. Besides they might find my weed and handgun in the glove box.
Before with plastic bracket
After - new bracket
