Yeah, it might be an unfair prejudice. It may have more to do with owners that bought the cheapest car they could find cuz they can't be bothered to do maintenence than the average car owner.
But the number of yugos I've seen in the past that have crooked body seams and missing trim pieces and such still comes across as a bit unseemly, along with how I don't hardly ever see one on the road these days anymore.
At low speeds my car's an understeering pig and I bet at an autox you'd hand me my um rear end.
And I'd LOL, being beaten by a yugo..

YFH, was bought out of a Junkyard for $100. After a few months of development my driver (I build, I am terrible at driving) showed up to an autox with his father, an SCCA veteran who just bought himself a C4 corvette. The kid handed pops his butt all day long by a second or more. And just to prove it was car not driver pops took a run in YFH and had his kid by almost a half second. Later in the season a young gun with a gutted BMW also classed in EP was very saddened to get annihilated by the Yugo all day long.
It took alot of trial and error to get it there though. It was a FWD understeering pig itself but some odd suspension setup actually let it be driven like a RWD car and it was simple to bring the back end around on a turn once you figured it out.
I didnt take that one far enough, someday I'll get another shell to work with and build something seriously derranged :)

there will never be a Yugo more badass than the one that used to run around the minneapolis/St Paul area 10-15 years ago.. it had a 350 Chev with an 8-71 blower with a ouple of Holey carbs poking thru the hood and tires that pretty much filled the entire rear of the car.
no, it couldn't take a corner and i'm sure the gas mileage was crap- but i bet it could scare pretty much anyone that was brave or stupid enough to take a ride in it. i saw it in person a few times..
I remember that car. It was scary as HELL.....

See, that's how bad this place has made me. I don't consider the Wartburg all that odd anymore.
Dang it just when I was getting over my want for a small car.. .. . .

I'm sure you posted it before, but what powertrain do you have in the YFH?
(thinking similar thoughts about a Festiva....)

SVReX owns YFH from now so perhaps he can answer about its current state. When I owned it is still had a stock 1300cc and a crapload of weight reduction. When I sold it it came with a MS unit for the motor and a 1500CC Fiat X1/9 drivetrain. My plan (before I realized I lacked the time/tools/talent to pull it off) was to make it twin engined with the X drivetrain in the rear.
