PITA job? How hard can it be, right? If you had the head off, what else would you do while you're in there?
It's a kind of pretty car to do what I want, maybe it's uglier in person. Can you supercharge - turbo - NOS one of these?

Mid-engine cars are a PITA to work on. On my MKII MR2, it was easier to drop the engine to do a lot of work that could have been done in the engine bay. I love the looks of these cars and I've owned 7 MR2s (of all generations)in the last 7 years.
The 4AGE engine is a workhouse. There are versions that are supercharged and they can be turbocharged as well. I have a SC in my MR2 and I think it's putting out 10#.

As long as you have the head off, it would be a good time to port/polish/gasket match.
$650 a fair price, a smoking deal or way off base?

If the car is good aside from the engine, it is a great deal.
I miss my old '88 MR2.
Price up a jdm 20V for more oomph.
Replace/repair with original 16V for 30 mpg.

I'd buy that just for those wicked '80s decals alone. You can drop in a smallport 4A-G from a 90+ Corolla GT-S which will give you an extra 20 HP or so. They go cheap.
never did the HG but it's SO easy to drop the engine I can't see doing it with the engine in the car...
takeing the spoiler off makes working on the car a lot easier IMHO :)...
have I mentioned i REALY want another mr2? :(
Thanks guys, I've done the one handed head first engine bay dive on 914s. I'm almost ambidextrious now!
This car is a solid 4 hour drive away, some contemplation is in order.
