I have a 1989 Mustang GT (stock with 4-lug wheels, front discs, rear drums) that I'm converting to 1995 Mustang 5-lug wheels and 4-wheel disc brakes.

The front brake hoses for the '89 have a lip on them that locates the hose to the caliper. This lip is now interfering with the hose fitting on the '95 caliper. The '89 hoses are fairly new and I really don't want to buy new ones unless I have to. Plus, if I switch to the '95 hoses I have to use some sort of adapter on the passenger side hard line to make it work.

As long as I'm careful not to mung up the sealing surface, is there any reason not to remove said lip so the hose will work?

Yeah, as long as the seal surface doesn't get goobered there shouldn't be any problem. I'd put a bunch of duct tape across the seal surface before going nuts with the grinder, etc.
