The branding of the Mach E as a Mustang was so negatively received I can't imagine they'd try to pull a 4 door Mustang on us. Falcon, Fairlane or any Mercury name no longer used would be better. Or hey, how about coming up with a completely original, new name? How novel!

Among enthusiasts, yes, but the general public doesn't give a toss about what's a "real" Mustang. Hell, I don't, and I've owned 5 of them.

Anyhow, if the name was that badly received, they'd have changed it in the four years since the car came out. In fact, the Mach E outsold the "real" Mustang last year.

I don't think the misuse of the name helped sell that many. It certainly did prevent people from even considering it. I've talked to many Mustang enthusiasts who want nothing to do with it simply because of the branding. The Mach-E has absolutely nothing to do with being a Mustang, and everyone knows it. It's also pretty much a sales failure overall. I see at least 50 Teslas for every Mach-E out there. The dealers spent huge amounts of money for training and chargers only to see minimal sales. The whole project is a debacle.

Mustang sales figures are what they are because the car has morphed into a high end sports car. It really isn't readily affordable as a stylish coupe for people who just want a cool car without the several hundred horsepowers most are sold with. It's an expensive, niche car now. Compare to how many four and six cylinder Fox Mustangs they sold that helped justify keeping a RWD coupe alive. So we do a 4 door to help justify the tooling expense for the 2 door platform, hoping it generates additional sales. Which is fine; just don't call it something it historically isn't.

The Mustang starting price is less than the cheapest manual Mazda3 you can buy.  Its $3k more than the base Accord, $2.5k more than the base Camry.

We can argue your anecdotal evidence vs my anecdotal evidence all day, but the bottom line is that the car sells pretty well for an EV. The first couple of years they couldn't keep them on the lots and people were paying above sticker. They dipped last year with all EVs, but have come back pretty strong lately. It's about as far from a sales failure or debacle as it could be. The fact that you don't like the name doesn't change the facts.

The new Thunderbird?  I don't like it as a Mustang but a nod back to falcon or something would be cool.

Didn't Ford a while back say they were only going to make mustangs and trucks?  So any new not truck vehicles they make has to be a Mustang now?

Are they shifting the branding to be similar to Ram?

'Mustang' is to become the car / performance / whatever the class the Mach E as (Does Ford have any other full EV's?) brand under Ford? Take branding recognition and run with it as its own so instead of it being a 'Ford Mustang EcoBoost' it becomes just 'Mustang EcoBoost'

Men don't care about practical, men want two doors and bad-assery.

We're men, damnit!

I have zero interest in a 2-door daily driver.  Guess I'm not a real man.

I say keep the true Mustang the two door it's always been

Yeah, because the 4-door Charger was such a sales flop.

i agree, small 4 door RWD sedans (aka 3 series) is the ideal daily...  even if the rear seat is too small for a rear facing child seat it is still effective for things like having a place to throw a laptop bag, a dog, etc.

coupes are great, but my 75# dog would look at me funny if I asked her to jump in/out of the back of an M2 everytime we went somewhere.

Funny how so many here hold onto the concept that car enthusiasts represent the general marketplace.

They could call it a Torino.  And Chevy should bring back the Malibu.

I lust after a new Mustang, but the cost has kept me away. I still need a 4-door sedan to do Dad things with. But this would pry the money from me every month, as long as it is a real Mustang, not a Charger.

How old/tall are your kids?  The back seat of the current Mustang is surprisingly cramped considering the car's length and wheelbase.  If the new sedan grows much for more rear space it could lose some of its Mustang-ness.

It will still have the urge to mow down crowds of people, but only in the parking lots of Target and Olive Garden.

As a Porsche owner it reminds me of the Panamera. I think it would be a big seller. I'd buy one. Where I live the Dodge Charger is a very popular car.

I have a two door Mustang now and I have owned two more in the past. I now have a 2017. I used to have a beat to crap 1990 with a hatchback and a four cylinder that I used as a truck to haul tools, parts and rescue dogs. I had '69 with a 351 when I was in high school. And I really like that version of the four door Mustang. Can we have a four door Shelby version to hunt big BMWs with? What about a two door station wagon? A four door station wagon.

Just don't call it a Fairmont.

I put a large dog bed in the back seat of mine and my 80 pound husky likes it just fine.

My anecdotal evidence is from discussions with the dealers who sell them, but yes, anecdotal.

Not a sales failure? I guess it depends on how you measure success. Last year was admittedly their best year, where they pushed out just shy of 52,000 Mock-Es. Meanwhile, over at Tesla (a company I am not a cheerleader for) they sold 1.7 million 3's and Y's. Ford's attempt at an electric SUV I doubt has been profitable at those sales figures. The Mach-E sales increase was helped by massive discounting, which continues for 2025.

"The 2025 Mach-E is expected to go on sale in early 2025 with a new starting price of $38,490, a $3500 discount compared to the 2024 version."

But, this is more of a problem with being in the electric car market than being a mis-badged SUV. The Mach-E sells/doesn't sell based on what it is, moreso than what badging it has. Nobody buys one because it has a racing horse on it. But it does a great job of pissing off the majority of Mustang faithful who have been loyal to the brand. I wonder how Corvette people would react to a Corvette crossover? Hopefully, we never find out.

The branding just makes no logical sense. Borrowing the name to just slap on SUVs and 4 doors is just lazy, like making movie sequels that have little to do with a popular original.
