Evan, some parts of the country, people have this bizarre notion that rallycross is buying a $300 junker and then beating on it until it stops moving under its own power. They'd think Ohio style rallycross is nuts.
Actually, I know some of them do. "You bought NEW tires? Why?"
Meanwhile, some of the people at Nationals were playing with GPS-based data acquisition and checking out their split times between runs, to see where they were making or losing time relative to their co-drivers.

I am assuming because the rockers and and lower body work is getting pounded by gravel and dirt. Rallycross seems cool and I would love to try it but I don't think I would take a nice street car out there unless maybe taping up all the exposed edges first............which is just about the entire lower half of the car in this instance. I tape the front corners on my car at an autocross. I know I am a freak. I think I would like to check out rallycross event though. Pretty cool.
The biggest mechanical issue is that the bushings and shocks can take a beating. The actual bodywork doesn't seem to get any worse abuse than what you'd see driving on the street.
Certainly, my rallycross car has held up the past three years a lot better than my non rallycross car.
Maybe I just look at it funny, but i figure that any car you own is going to be scrap in five years, even if you buy new, so just enjoy it.
The driver of the Mustang used to run a RIDICULOUSLY fast AWD Turbo Eclipse at these events. The Eclipse is currently offline, and he missed running the events.
He wasn't driving the Mustang the way I've seen him drive the Eclipse.
(edit- yes, the Red Bull girls sometimes show up at our events. DO NOT DRINK IT. It is understeer in a can.)

Also, in before "OMG you can't get air at rallycross wharrgarbl..." It happens. Happens enough to me that I'm thinking of painting my car orange and changing my number.

You mean scca rallycross. THSCC is not SCCA
And you can't paint the car orange and change your number. I want to get the musical horn for the escort.
