That reminds me of my race footage. The only difference is his car is white, he's faster in the straights, he turns better, brakes better, has more talent than I even knew existed, knows what he's doing and didn't crap his pants during that run. I almost crapped myself watching it.
Now that's racing! The late, great Peter Brock (not to be confused with our American Peter Brock of Cobra & BRE fame).
Brock's first Aussie racer:
Some history of the man

He was a true Aussie legend and died doing what he loved the best.
Ironically he died while driving a replica of the the car designed by the American Peter Brock.

In happier days, he won the 79 Bathurst by 6 laps.

Brock also did a Shelby and released a series of tricked Commodores

Wow!
If only the commentator would STFU, so we could hear the beautiful music emminating from that beast.
I really love that the interviewer comes right up to him afterwards and opens with "you made a few mistakes".
Where's the footage of the interviewer's lap?
I'd kill to have 1/2 the skill of that Peter. We could start with that dumbass with the mike...
Awesome lap

The stage of Targa West that he crashed on was about half an hour away from my school, and I remember getting the news at lunchtime. Could hardly believe it.
To be fair, he did make a couple of mistakes and that was a qualifying lap. When you're the fastest guy on the mountain, people expect perfection. And I'll bet he got out of the car thinking about those little errors instead of "wow, that sure felt good going in to the Chase".
Other than putting his name on chili and lawsuits, he really did pull a bit of a Shelby. I'd forgotten, but after he insisted on putting an "Energy Polarizer" (magnet) on the HDT vehicles and getting himself cut loose because of it, he modified Fords for a while. He even screwed around with Ladas, the parallel of the econobox Shelbys. I always think of him as 100% Holden.
I'm trying to find more about that engine, but I'm mostly finding info on the homologation special it's built around. The street cars were either a 304 or a 355. Looks like twin throttle bodies are a given. It was a pretty serious special, too, with a bunch of aero tweaks.
Not magnets, "Energy Polarizers" - woo! He was getting a little new age goofy and it made them nervous. According to Wikipedia, he was also recommending very low tire pressures. He did eventually come back into the fold.
