Facebook memory popped up today, first event ever.  Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia OH in my old '06 Toaster.  Back in the days of only owning one car...

According to FB I turned the wrong way on the first lap but didn't the other 8.  Damn, that's better than some recent events.  And after this I was hooked.

Be careful - adrenaline is just as addicting as caffeine.  My first dose occurred 35 years ago and continues to this day.  I still haven't come down off of my adrenaline high from taking my first-ever FTD a couple of months ago.

Makes me think about the idea that my last autocross was 6 years ago, I think this month.  The ONE time I got to take out a race car that I had gotten, and spent many years rebuilding.  Only to find that it needed more work.

By then, we had heavily ratcheted down our racing, as it was a track event in 2010 or 2011 where my gold GTV caught on fire that was my last track event.

First autocross was back in the 80s, when I ran a few events with the Eastern Idaho Sports Car Club.  Most were with AROC Detroit starting in '92.

Needing to avoid the sun (due to skin cancer) exposed that we got kind of burnt out of doing events.  But I do remember the thrill of balancing the car to the verge of spinning, and how "relaxed" I felt going from skeethouse to hill top at Waterford Hills.  Loved those corners.

Managed a real FTD twice- once at an AROC Convention, and once at a Challenge.

My first was in 1966, unfortunately it was a gymkhana with a parking garage! I'm down to two or three a year now and am slowing down  but not DFL yet.  Have tried all sorts of vehicles including a Honda 750. Still love it. cheeky

Awesome choice of car! I still haven't autocrossed yet, although I've been on track quite often. I sort of want to try it out...

Thanks. And do it. I was nervous and expecting a lot of trash talk from bro's, especially my choice of daily driver. Nothing of the sort, very friendly people and willing to give advice and co-drives.

The SCCA region in this area has an unfriendly vibe from what I hear, which is why I avoid going. Not really interested in competing in autocross, but rather using it as a tool to become better overall as a driver.
