Hey guys, I haven't posted on here in awhile, but figured I would show y'all my German Iveco fire truck I imported. Y'all are some of the few people that like random stuff like this! I had the orange Unimog before that some may have seen. And a lot of random cars haha. It is quite fun!

Yeah, most of us have fire trucks

Does it only put out Germans?

It does have an air cooled turbo diesel, which is pretty cool.

The radio only plays George Strait The Fireman, that's all I know

Feuerwehr, German for Fire Defense, that's neat.

I have absolutely no question why you own that. I just wonder what, if anything prevents you from driving that on American roads?

Don't be shy about posting Unimog pictures either. I can't say there's many here that don't know what they are but I know most of us would appreciate them, especially me!

I'd ditch the box, put a pickup bed out there and run that thing every day!

That would be nice to mount a camper on. Did you import it yourself or was it already here? I have some dumb ideas in case I ever run into money.

I'd de-emphisis the firetruck-ness and increase the Expedition vehicle-ness.

That rear portion of the cabin looks large enough for a double size bed conversion or two single bunks. The flat roof of the box looks like a place to set up a tent for the night.

The biggest reason I haven't bought a fire truck is because I can't figure out what I'd do with one.

A local veterinarian bought one and uses it for mobile work/rescues, particularly with sea life.

Edit: I found the article here.

Dr. Askew said: said: Askew has “refurbished a 1968 Ford F850 fire truck for animal rescue,” he said. The truck, complete with flashing red lights, has a 12 1/2 -foot-long bed in the back to transport larger creatures, such as a pygmy sperm whale (the plight of one stranded on the Coast following Hurricane Georges in 1998 led to the creation). That’s not to say much smaller critters couldn’t get a ride in the fancy firetruck.

Given that a lot of the reason Diesels are so loud is because of noise transmission through the engine block (also why inlines are louder than V engines), and aircooleds are louder than watercooled engines because cylinder noise escapes more easily... that has got to be one loud truck.

That's awesome. I clicked into the thread actually thinking "Unimog", which I've had on the brain lately again...

So, how is it? What's it like to drive? I'm guessing "aircooled diesel" isn't the only unusual thing about its design, either... :)

It's a fire truck. Lound pipes save lives. It all checks out.

That and where to store/work on it are the two main reasons this beauty isn't already mine...Although, I bet some cost recuperation could get it under $2017.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Keith: It is in really good shape, that's why it's usually so nice to buy firetrucks compared to others because they are normally taken such good care of.

Yugo: Oh yes 4x4, actually AWD, with locking center and rear differentials. Really cool system. But not as cool as a Unimogs, but close. Front cover is a PTO driven pump unfortunately, not a winch.

Ross: Just fun stuff, camping, off roading, driving around. I drive it to work sometimes just for the hell of it. It has a toll tag :)

Ebony: Nothing at all prevents it from driving on American roads. GVW under 26k pounds so no commercial anything. Normal title. It does weigh 13k pounds, but drives pretty normal. Ill put a picture of my Unimog in this post on the bottom

914: Yah that would be awesome. But the box is fun to climb up top to see things.

Wall-e: I did import it myself. A full on camper would be really cool, but I doubt I have it that long.

JohnRW: Yep, that is exactly the plan. A lot of items have already been cut off or removed, and the tires are brand new and singles instead of dualies and much bigger. I guess I could take stickers off and lights, but the lights are fun. And yep the rear is large enough for a bed easy.

Mazduece: Hey I follow a few of your threads! Well dont buy an American firetruck, they cant do much. With this you can do just about anything that needs a big strong 4x4 vehicle to tow or pull something, or haul something. Or to go camp!

Knurled: You know what, you would be amazed how quiet this truck is. Ive been in old school Unimogs (404, 406, 416, etc) which are unbearable, my Unimog was a SBU version which is worlds better than the old ones but still quite loud, and this one is quieter still. Easy to hold a pretty normal conversation with anyone in the truck. EU started to mandate inside noise regulations for trucks at some point and the later they got the better they got.

Ransom: I am a Unimog nut, I love them. I just need to wait a few more years before I can get my ultimate Doka Unimog and keep that one. This one is still off road oriented, but closer to road oriented than a Unimog, which does make it nicer to drive. I can drive this thing for hours, literally, and not be bothered or worn out or deaf. No A/C, but other than that it drives excellent on the road. Yah the Deutz is a cool engine, has a divorced transfercase, dogleg transmission with high and low range, air over hydraulic brakes, hydraulic cab tilt, exhaust brake, fully mechanical. Yah its got some cool things.

TJ: It definitely is! A tad long and wide, but EU trucks turn so much sharper than US trucks so still surprisingly maneuverable.
