So I bought another diesel W126, this time an '86 300SDL. It's my fourth. I may have a problem. I actually bought it in August, but I'm bad about posting regularly. Whoops.
I bought it with 257k on it and today we're at 265k after my recent trip 2k mile to Minnesota and back. I love these things, but they're getting harder and harder to find in decent shape but still good for daily use. This one was certainly getting close to roached out status (apparently it was used in a Cannonball?) but yeah, get these now while you can.
Wow, from the pics that looks very clean!
Definitely lacking random 3rd world flags on the fenders though.
Very nice!
I wish I would've kept my euro 500SEL. My kids loved the reclining/heated rear seat.
I'm curious, what do you like about these? I love the way they look, but I haven't driven one in over 20 years, and I don't remember it being that great. Although, I was younger and less interesting in a cruiser back then.

Oh, "Diplomat Flags" are exactly what this car needs!

Something obscure like the Presidential Flag of Botswana would give a nice color match to the car.
The Country of Jordan for a more personal attachement?
In reply to Jordan Rimpela :
I think your problem is that you're far to young to drive (legally). I had that problem for 15 years. Hang in there.

Shes clean! And at this point you have enough miles on it that the head cracking issues have probably already been resolved.
Wow, that's the cleanest W126 that I've seen in a long, long time. The guy that I worked for in the early 90's had a gray market 500 gas burner, and that thing was already a little ratty by that time.
Nice find!

Way late with my reply, but I do like the way they drive, for sure. I wouldn't say that a W126 is a standout amongst cars in terms of comfort in 2024, but when you combine its comfort with its reliability (speaking strictly diesels here) it's a pretty compelling package.
