It's time to take the snow tires off my sons 08 Suzuki SX4 and get him some tires for the nice weather. I'm looking for something that will be suitable for NE weather from late April to October/November.
We'll be mounting them on the factory 16x6.5 wheel unless I come across a good deal on something in a 5x114 pattern.
The use will be mainly as a DD, but may see if we can get him on the auto cross course if scheduling and Covid restrictions permit.

My first thought was, does a SX4 fit under the autocross rule of track has to be wider than height? A quick googling brings back these results that says track width is 59" and height is 60.8"
If you are at stock ride height, I recommend to buy some tires a little shorter than stock, like 2" shorter radius (4" overall height)
It is specifically classed in HS. I would definitely second going as small diameter as you're willing to put up with if you think it's going to end up on an autocross course at any point.
Seems there were many stock tire sizes for SX4's. Depends on weather you have a sport model or more off-road-y model. I recommend searching the height based off which version you actually have.
It looks like it's actually 63.2 tall with a track width of 59.1/58.9 F/R. That disappointing, so it looks like he may need to lower it, go with lower tires and more offset to meet the requirements for auto cross.
He definitely wants to try motor sports, potentially auto cross and/or rally cross. He really wants to drift, but that is a project for another day with a different car.
Does rally cross have similar requirements?
It's classed for autocross and therefore legal as is. Good idea or not is a different judgement, but it is allowed to run as is.

When I looked online I found the SX4 sedan was classed, but didn't see the hatchback. On the plus side I also didn't see it on the prohibited list.
Oh I guess I didn't realize the hatch was physically a different car. In that case you might be out of luck.
