Mythbusters is not GRM friendly

They destroyed, not one, but two NA Miata on their sound effects show. I can only hope they were automatics.

I was rip-E36 M3 when I saw the Green Hornet special, and even more so when I found out over twenty 1964 Imperials were destroyed filming that waste of celluloid. Watching the Toyota that was cut open for the James Bond special and the X1/9 crushed by the semis made me kind of sad too.

Don't even get me started on the Green Hornet. I love Seth Rogan as much as the next guy, but come on! One of the most expensive and rarest cars ever made by detroit, all hacked up and powered by BBC's.

I remember reading in HRM that the guy wo built the cars is the same crew who built all the cars for the last two F&F movies. He said, in print, that those twenty were literally ALL he could find, and was worried if there was a sequel, that there wouldn't be any more to find.

I appreciate the director trying to go all OG, but be realistic, real life is not hollywood, hollywood.

The fans on the mythbusters message board are completely annoying. I suggested that the mythbusters team test the central premise of Jack Baruth's controversial column Five-Point Belts Will Paralyze You and Other Fun Safety Facts; i.e.

Jack Baruth said: There’s a race-car safety system, and it consists of a full cage, five-point harnesses, helmet, and full race suit. There’s a street-car safety system, and it consists of three-point inertia belts, airbags, and soft interior surfaces. Don’t mix the two. The results are never good.....Leave the racing equipment at the track. If you think your car is too fast to drive on-track without a half-cage or five-point belts, it’s worth considering whether you and your massive talent really shouldn’t be in a real race car.

It's an interesting claim, one that ought to be tested, but the fans thought it was a stupid idea.

Couldn't agree more. They have ripped up several nice cars over the years.

Do you have a link to that article by chance? A quick search didn't turn it up.

I really hated the one where they tested "throwing a penny in a carb on a running engine" one. They put it in the secondary side of a quadrajet at idle. Of course, it just sat there bouncing around on the butterflies, but they were too stupid to realize it. They were brilliant on Battlebots, but I am beginning to think they really don't have very analytical minds.

the list of grm-friendly cars theyve destroyed is pretty long really. many e34s, e30s, datsuns, fieros, amc eagles, x1/9, old mercedes, volvos, a few hatches i cant remember, not to mention all the big american cars theyve messed with.

And the real shame of it is that they're located in California, so nearly everything they destroy is clearly absolutely rust-free. If they trucked perforated crap in from the snow belt, I wouldn't have an aneurysm every time they do a car myth.

And frankly, "myth" is being stretched beyond credibility lately. I think MB jumped the shark about 3 seasons ago.

The Mythbusters continue to ignore my request to test the premise that if your college roommate dies, you get an automatic 4.0 for the semester.

Mythbusters used a Z once, but it wasn't destroyed.

The first car was an auto 1.6 (they showed the stick when dropping in the fuel jugs).

They are a little hard on the test subjects, but California is like that. A $1000 car that can't pass smog is a $1000 car that's a good candidate for destruction.

For a bit of trivia, I'll challenge anyone (not on staff) to name which Mythbusters cast member appeared in an early issue of Classic Motorsports magazine AND which issue it appeared in.

GRM swag and an autographed World Challenge poster for the first correct answer...

They also destroyed a mint Toyota Corona once.

They destroyed an old Caddy a few years back - a friend of mine donated it to them. The car wasn't worth anything other than for entertainment value. Old Miatas aren't necessarily worth a lot of money either, folks.

As for the Green Hornet thing - was it Mythbusters or the moviemakers who destroyed the Imperials?

I don't watch Mythbusters on a regular basis, so I don't discriminate between new ones and old ones. The "airplane on a treadmill" test kinda showed that sometimes they're just trying to prove basic science to internet weenies instead of actually testing a myth. If you can understand the difference between air speed and ground speed, then you'll have no problem figuring that out.

Did the show ever investigate the "downwind faster than wind speed" claims? Because that is some interesting and very non-intuitive stuff.

Adam was in a "Don't squeeze the Charmin" commercial about the time the mag was starting; Jamie was running a dive boat down around GRM and points south. Jamie collects bikes and cars....

I'm gonna guess it was Jamie in the 4th issue.
