I'm with Woody. I wouldn't draw attention to the headlight surround myself. Heck, they should be down unless it's dark anyhow!
But it's a way to make your car look different.
The light color seems to showcase just how inelegant the molding is. Looks like a piece of plastic that has warped from heat exposure
I certainly don't not like it, at least in white. In white, I sorta dig it. I like simplicity and purity in design, so little details like this that simplify the details are often a win to me. Not always, and I'll withhold judgement on other color cars.
Or maybe I'm just a child of the 80s and still have a soft spot for monochromatic paint schemes. Like this:

I had a white miata and painted mine metallic silver. I liked it. I has pics but have to dig on the computer.
I was inspired by the aftermarket east bear headlight surrounds that are often painted silver
I googled east bear headlights and a photo of my old car was the 3rd pic lol
