NASCAR Charolette Roval..

This leads me to wonder would they ever consider running the roads course at Daytona. I would watch that!!!   

Great first race w/ no tire or fuel strategy or much racing in full field traffic. 

Larson had the best finish IMO, bouncing off several walls last lap w/ an ill car to stay in the Chase. 

I'd like to see 'em run the Daytona road course too.

Dear Bruton Smith - Please oh please have this course open when you let everyone run laps for charity the day after Thanksgiving.

It's been at least 15 years since I road race at the Charlotte track with scca. Look very similar except possibly wider to the configuration we ran. It really was a lot of fun back then getting up on the highbanks in an old improved touring Z car. Very similar to the now-defunct Texas World Speedway road course that I last ran in 1996?

it devolved into a rant further along I did admit to that.  I just hate tv.  too much fluffing going on before the action.  and entertainment ain't entertaining anymore.  turn me off every time it's what i do to tv. 

It would be awesome to see nascar do more circuit racing. I’m back and forth on the “stage” racing format though. Yea makes it more exciting to keep bunching everyone back up, but to me also takes away from drivers who are in top of field in long runs.

I was at today's race. I bought seats directly above road course turn 1 knowing that sooner or later it would be a E36 M3 show. Was not disappoint.

I don't think I've ever seen three guys simultaneously blow the same braking zone at the same time.

Question: Did Keselowski have enough gas to go to the finish? I lost track of when he last pitted and thought he might have to make a splash and go at the end (had everything gone green).

Not a hope for Brad, he pitted four laps earlier than the rest.  Larson was going way too hard as well.  His crew cheif was chewingcob him for most of the stint to ignire Brad, but he seemed to want to pass...

Without caution, Truex had the best fuel situation, and likely would have won.

Well, going into it the consensus was it would either be a snoozefest or awesome.  No in between.  I think it was definitely the latter.

I'm usually halfway watching races, on my phone or laptop.  I realized after the end of the race I had been watching the entire time.  Definitely a good race.

Sat right above the restart zone knowing how this race would finish. That was definitely a "Days of Thunder" style ending. The SCCA Track Night in America uses this course, with a few changes, during their events. I'm a little surprised Johnson even managed to make it to the final lap. In the first stage, he and Kyle Busch were consistently launching their cars higher in the air through the final chicane than anyone else. I wonder if they would consider doing this one under the lights.

Jimmie went for a low percentage pass. On the outside of the turn and out of control. Should have just followed Truex and finished 2nd. Bet he won’t sleep tonight wondering what if...

Charlotte speedway was turned into a 1/2 scale Daytona roads course and they then let NASCAR loose on it.  Probably one of the best NASCAR races I have seen in five or even ten years.  

Going to say it was maybe ten years ago I watched my last NASCAR race. Did they do the three-tea break format for this race?

Watched about 30 minutes of this before I went into Sunday afternoon nap mode. I’d watch this on sundays if they had more of these road courses. My 9 year old loved it. 

I watched about 1/2 of the race, as I was flipping back and forth between it and the Eagles game.  I was very much anticipating it, and honestly I've got pretty mixed feelings.  The first 100 laps were sort of meh....not horrible but not really great either.  The last 20 laps (or whatever it was) became very interesting.  The finish was bonkers.  But the question is was the last 20 minutes of the race worth the first 2 hours that wasn't as exciting?

I'd like to see them continue running races like this, but maybe tweak it some.  Personally, I'd like to see them take out the chicanes on the NASCAR oval completely.  Make the cars do 95% of a "regular" lap at Charlotte, then go into the infield and run a true road course.  Or if they're keeping the chicanes, make them tighter, where they have to slow down more.

The Chicane does need work , A wide for traffic- but very much deeper U shape , not a zig zag

As entertaining as that would be, I don't think that would work.  Entry speeds into turn one would be north of 180 mph if they got a full running start from the exit of the infield all the way around...  As bad as that corner was this weekend, it would be straight-up dangerous if they had that much more speed going into a hard 90° turn with zero runoff.

All ROVAL format please..........thoroughly enjoyed this. Have not watched NEKCAR for a long time, the exception being the road course shenanigans.

Yes I agree it'd be very dangerous if they left everything else the same, I was just talking about building from a clean slate...or at least doing changes that are realistic.  I'm thinking of something similar the hard 180 degree right at Sonoma (turn 11 I think...).  They're hauling butt and have to get down to something like 30mph.  I realize the other problem with having them hit 180+ mph before having them slow to 40mph lap after lap is cooking the brakes, so it may not be realistic to do a full lap around the 1.5 mile oval. 

While I enjoyed the race, I'd definitely like to see some alterations.  More braking zones, tighter turns.  I realize they're confined to the space that the infield gives them, and it was a good first effort...but I think it's got potential to be more.

They (Gibbs was first to do it I believe) figured out it's an aerodynamic aid, so they run them even with no threat of rain. Probably spent $500k on that one...

Hate to say it, but JJ should be the next one to retire. Two years ago.

I give him a pass this year because of the new Camaro learning curve for the whole team. But if in 2 more years he doesn’t get #8, retire and enjoy your daughters. And if he gets #8 he should retire right after that. About the only other thing to go for would be number of wins and that doesn’t seem to be happening much anymore.
