As mentioned in a previous thread, my kid is looking for a Miata with an automatic transmission. I know very little about NB's and less about Miatas with automatic transmissions. I found a 2002 with 50k miles that I may check out this weekend. Any specifics that I should look out for?

Automatic Miatas must be pretty rare -- can you actually be choosy about it? I think I've only seen one or two NAs, and never an NB.

They seem to get more common as they get newer. My guess is that at least 40% or more of the NC's have slushboxes.

Rare until you are searching for them. The amount of "Rare! Automatic!" miata's out there really makes me wonder what qualifies for rare.

Rare as in most people don't want them.

After having a couple of 99s I can't even imagine one with an auto. My nephew had a 95 with an automatic and that car almost stopped me from even looking at a Miata. The new body style caught my eye so I went and drove one, as they say, the rest is history.

Has your kid done something wrong to warrant relegating him to an automatic trans Miata?

It'll be dog slow, which may or may not be a good thing for a teenaged boy. I know someone would have to give me a Miata with an auto tranny for me to take it.
