I just wish they would visibly patrol I-77 north of Charlotte.

Are you kidding? They are scared of that stretch of road.
Operation DRIFT? Operation Redline? Are they trying to stop the street racers with laughter?
"Our goal is to make them laugh so hard with our silly codenames and acronyms that their vision will be too blurred with tears, leaving them incapable of driving or holding their urine."

Combination of construction, high traffic volume, aggressive and inattentive drivers AND LACK OF A VISIBLE HIGHWAY PATROL PRESENCE leads to multiple accidents daily.
/(begin rant) PEOPLE, PUT DOWN YOUR CELL PHONES, CRACKBERRYS, IPODS, BOOKS, MAKEUP, SEVEN COURSE MEALS, VIDEO SCREENS, AND DRIVE!!! (Yes, I've seen two people reading books while they drive that stretch and take up all the lanes and part of the grass. You people watching porn while you drive, please turn it off or get a bigger screen.) (end rant) /
Every time I drive to Boone, I see at least two Highway Patrol cars on 421 between N. Wilkesboro and Boone. Every time I drive near Wadesboro on 74, I see multiple Highway Patrol cars. They seem to pay more attention to the state highways than the interstates. Highway Patrol will tell you they can't patrol that stretch because they stay tied up with accidents, but unless there is an acident, I never see a Highway Patrol car and when there is an accident, we have to wait 30 minutes or more for a Highway Patrol officer to arrive and they have to come from 20 miles away.

Do you have proof they're not putting time and effort into those crimes?
Dragging this thread back to my original topic, I'm not expecting the NC Highway Patrol to concentrate on drug dealers and child molesters. (Or on scheming, greedy Wall Street Investment Bank cheaters. (I mean executives))
I do think they could me more effective in preventing accidents and fatalities by being a visible presence on interstate highways rather than concentrating on unmarked cars and undercover sting operations. According to the story, the undercover "DRIFT" operation has been going on for months leading me to believe that illegal street races were allowed to go on while Highway Patrol officers were present and to me that means confiscating cars and grabbing headlines was more important than preventing accidents and fatalities.
Unfortunately state troopers in NC and SC don't mess with molesters and that type unless they are speeding, drifting, rolling stop signs, etc. We don't have a "state police" like some of the other states have.
i forgot sarcasm is hard to detect over the internet......i should have used quotation marks. I forgot peeps read way too into things. I was joking and trying to be one of those "people." I'll fix it. No need to get your knickers in a wad.

Hey I got it, but I'm pretty sarcastic myself.
If it means less of the a-holes hiding in the bushes in the middle of the day when traffic is light, then by all means crack down on organized street racing. The only time you have to worry about getting dinged by the highway patrol is between 9am and 11am and then from 1pm to 3pm. They are too busy getting coffee before then, lunch in the middle, all sandwiched between commutes, when it is too busy. So really, the HP just sets up speed traps at the times it is safest to speed.
But I'll shut up about it entirely if the alternative is speed cameras.
I think you should have an dumbass indicator on the back of your car. Every time someone sees you driving like a dumbass, they could electronically "tag" you and increase your dumbass rating. Let it be self-policing.
Neal Boortz used to advocate shooting cars with paintballs when they are being asshats. That way the cops can easily spot them and slap them around accordingly. The more paintball stains the more shots to the head with the Mag Light.

Wouldn't about 95% of the cars then be covered by paint ball marks? That's about the ratio of asshats here in Michigan anyway. Oh wait it's winter now and it's snowing. Make that 98%.
