We get a lot of questions about our forced induction plans for the ND Miata, and we haven't been able to talk about it - until now. We're happy to announce that we are the US distributor for the new BBR Stage 1 turbo kit, and it's a beautiful setup.
BBR, as you probably know, has been involved in turbo Miatas since the beginning, just like we have. You can tell with this new system, it's built to the level that BBR and FM customers expect.
The number you want to know? A 55-70 whp gain at 8 psi, depending on fuel. You also get a big slug of torque down low, with maximum torque up by 70 ft-lb and peak at around 3800 rpm or so. We've been testing with Colorado 91 octane which is at the low end of what's available in the US. The UK numbers are higher due to their fuel, and we expect that the eastern half of the US with 93 octane will split the difference. We're still working on dyno tuning, so we hope to make more power available on the stock ignition and fuel system.
It's the easiest turbo install we've ever done, with no drilling or irreversible mods other than a couple of spliced rubber coolant lines. The driving experience is smooth. The turbo is basically silent, so the car just gets down to business with a very quick buildup of boost. Like the ND in general, the large amount of torque down low makes it faster than sheer dyno numbers would have you think.
We have a car with the system installed at the Mitty this weekend if you want to check it out.
