I'm in Oregon! The max I can go is 6k and I would prefer closer to 5k. Want to keep it as low mileage as possible. Really prefer wagons. Looking at the Focus, a couple Volvos, some Passats, and a couple Accord wagons. Seems like the best deal is the Focus so far.
I want it to be reliable, cheap to maintain, possibly some fun factor but safety also for my daughter... And fuel efficiency has me focused on manual trannies, but the right automatic would be okay...
Any thoughts on anything I might be missing or on the above cars listed? Really leaning towards all the great Focus wagons I see, though the Passats look REALLY nice. Just heard crummy things about their reliability. Love Volvos, but have never worked on them or even driven one... Just like the safety factor. I do really want a wagon, but the right sedan or even little SUV I could be sold on...
Thanks guys!

Verify the mileage, looks pretty clean, get the timing belt/valves done and drive.
btw, I have a cap of 3500 for my searches, so I used that.
I'm down in San Francisco, CA so a bit far from you but I've had good luck with my 99 Audi A4 wagon w/ the V6 and 5 speed manual and Quattro AWD. Pretty fun car and absolutely awesome in rain and the light snow I drove through while in Tahoe.
I will probably be listing it for sale soon. I bought it to use as my RX7 was down for some drivetrain updates. Almost done with that project.

Really? I've never seen a 5 speed v6 wagon.
I would look at an elantra or elantra gt for the fuel efficient/ reliable/cheap to maintain factor
down here in texas, you can find a decent v70's with a turbo for around 4-6k
Yep, manual Mazda6 V6 wagons are out there and some private party ones are even below $6000, but they are very rare.
How about this, of course shipping might be a bit

Why not an Impreza or Legacy? I've got about $2500 (purchase + deferred maintenance) in a 100k '98 Impreza wagon for my daughter, and she loves it. For twice that you could get a much newer, cleaner one.
This one's easy-Volvo Turbo wagon. Incredibly cheap, super safe, run forever and tons of mods available. My 90 760 turbo wagon has 350,000k on it, still on the original engine and trans. Doesn't burn oil and no leaks. I've picked up parts cheap for it on ebay and the turbobrick site. With Bilsteins,IPD springs, shocks, chassis braces and sways, it scares BMWs in the curves, gets good mileage and can haul anything(more than most SUVs!)

Oh, and I suppose only hairdressers like Miatas? Spare us.

Not sure how big of a wagon you want, but a Protege5 is about the size of a focus, and should be near that price range, depending on miles...
