Tomorrow I'll be going out to look at two or three 2012 Infiniti G37x and one 2012 MKS Ecoboost. All of the cars I'll be looking at are within $1700 or so of each other pricewise and are all at around 55k miles +/-2k miles. The MKS is the cheapest of the group by around $1k.
I've driven a G37x and love the car, but can't get this MKS out of my head. I've never driven an MKS. The G series has a great history of reliability, but I'm quite honestly scared of the MKS drivetrain long-term. I plan on owning the car for 7-8 years and would be putting around 18k miles on per year. Any idea if the MKS drivetrain is as likely to provide me years of catastrophe service as the G37x long term? Is a used 54k mile Ecoboost a bad idea?

Haven't ever driven the MKS. Have been in a lot of Lincolns, and I haven't had a one impress me as far as build quality when compared to Infiniti/ Lexus vehicles...well....ever.The slide/touch climate control thing is stupid also.
Have driven the G37 and walked away very impressed. Used, it's a lot of car for the money. I have considered buying one myself, I like it that much.
I have strong confidence the G37 will take the miles you want to drive with ease and relative reliability.
I'm not so confident with the Ford, especially the 3.5tt if internet reliability lore is to be believed.
To me, this is a no brainier choice.
For me, this is also a no brainer choice. G37 is a much more athletic chassis, the VQ motor has shown to be very stout, no direct injection for carbon build up, no turbo. With the kind of miles you're going to put on it, I think the Lincoln is just begging for trouble. I wouldn't even bother looking at them. If those are your only two considerations, the G37 is far and away the better choice. If you don't live where it snows, ditch the x model and save some weight and mpg.

Yeah, these were my feelings as well. I've read the MKS can be tuned into quite a sleeper, but I was concerned about the things you guys mentioned. I guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on something good. Thanks.
I wouldn't touch a Lincoln with a ten foot pecker.
My daughter had an Edge and had several problems that Ford would do nothing about. Stupid little things that Ford ignored.
To me it's no question either. The G is just going to work for you. I'm at 55K miles on mine and the only thing it's ever needed besides oil changes is 1 set of tires. It's showing no signs of not being 100% reliable for another 10 years.
My cousin has a G37 and it's been very reliable, although he pampers that car.

Update. I bought a 2012 G37x with 52k miles. The Lincoln had already been sold but judging by these posts, it's just as well. I look forward to many years of driving the G.
