Mrs. DX wants to get into another vehicle with lower miles. She has a 12 Jetta with the 2.5 engine right now and has the itch to get into something else. I'd like to steer her away from VW and get into something more reliable and appliance like. She has driven a Ford C Max and liked it. I think an Accord or Camry would be good recommendations. Am I missing anything else? I think she is open to a stick shift but would prefer a slushbox.

The new Honda Fit is pretty righteous, in a dishwasher kind of way

If you're looking Accord/Camry size, don't forget to look at the Sonata and Optima

For appliance duty the Mazda CX-3 is a pretty handy trucklet. As a bonus, it's pretty entertaining to drive as well. IIRC it's basically a Mazda 3 with a higher ride-height.

I had a Fit when we first met and it was too small for her. She felt confined in it so that would be a no go.

Maybe the Honda HR-V? It is just a slightly bigger, lifted Fit. I'm 6'2" and love my Fit, feels huge inside to me, but everyone is different. Also a vote here for anything with a Mazda badge, they are killing it right now.

A new Accord is a nice place to sit. We did a sign and drive for $249/mo with routine maintenance included for 36 months. 37mpg highway, LX model

Maybe more psuedo-luxury-esque? Like an older Lexus or Acura? The boring cars that come with all sorts of fancy shmancy features that us car guys normally dont give a hoot about. Most other people are easily impressed/excited over the little things like butt-warmers, good factory sound system, built in LCD screens, etc.

Thanks for the heads up. That might be an avenue to go down. The zero down part doesn't hurt either.

I will never put money down for a lease. It's all relative, obviously.. But nice to have a reasonable payment without a cash outlay, aside from taxes

My 2021 Accord 5-speed ran the factory Dunlop's to 81,000 miles and I still have the original brakes at 116,000 miles.

Truly an appliance that runs and runs - not really over the top fun.

A 2021 Accod? You don't mean a Delorean do you?

I have been going back through the accords on CL and think the 2001 may be the ideal car.

The C Max isn't a bad call, it's very nice to drive. Just make sure to buy it pre-depreciated, they really don't hold value.
