Hey guys... this might be a stab in the dark.

One of the bolts backed off the brake caliper mounting bracket on my nissan pathfinder. the caliper swung into the wheel and did its impersonation of a lathe, locking up the wheel and doing some damage in the process. After having my pathfinder towed to my brothers house, the only real issue now is replacing the bolt that fell out. It appears to be a fine pitch metric bolt about 2 inches long and about an M14 in size. Lowes and advance auto only carry up to M12 metric bolts. No fastenal stores I can find are open on Saturdays. Nissan parts dealer is already closed.

Does anyone have any ideas for finding a bolt that will work so I can get back to work on Monday???

I'm kinda SOL here.

My ACE hardware has a surprisingly good selection.

But have a look around the car. Automakers tend to stick with the same 3-4 bolt sizes, so there might be one hiding elsewhere. That's a big boy, but maybe the same size hold the bumper on or something. Heck, it's a truck. They probably use an M14 to hold the airbox lid on.

My local hardware store once told me "oh, metric, we got out of that stuff a while back"

Keep in mind... I live in Canada.

go to an auto parts store and see if you can get a replacement calliper. They will sometimes come with the bolts. Also check the Fix it parts they have. They may have what you need in a pinch

There are True Value hardware stores that can have a good selection of metric hardware. Do you have any junk yards available for you to crawl through?

No... once I struck out at the usual places I asked advance and autozone about getting the bolts with a caliper or a caliper bracket... they checked those out while I was at the store, nothing came with the bolt. And unfortunately there are not many junkyards here in WV, especially ones with any metric offerings.

But the ace hardware lead paid off. I took the bolt to the local ace store at 4 o clock and they didn't have but thought another store might, called a store an hour away that closed at 5 and they had it. So I hopped on motorcycle in the rain and tore ass across the horizon and made it there just at closing time to pick up the bolt. Bolt is now installed and tragedy has been averted.

And I pulled the other wheel to double check the caliper mounting bolts on that side and both were plenty tight. I locktited everything this time around.

Thanks all.

Yeah but there's mountainfest going on here in Morgantown and I am a motorcycle rider... you guys are always having E36 M3 out in cumberland, it seems like. You were the one that invited me out to the car show thing in the depression thread.

I'm actually driving back to martinsburg tomorrow, maybe if my pathfinder keeps its brake calipers on for the drive home I could stop by. It looks like I have a full day of moving and cleaning ahead of me though, so in all likely hood I won't be passing through cumberland till late in the PM.

Moonachie, NJ is a good 5 hour drive. I can think of a lot of alternatives before I'd ride 10 hours round trip for a $2.10 bolt.

well, one weekend a month, but the next few weeks are action packed.

2 weeks from this weekend we have Polish Mountian out in Flintstone (you gotta come out for that!! free shirts and food for cornerworking!) and the week after that is our next auto-x

This happened to me before. On the highway at 75mph in the rain. It was scary. Stopped that wheel dead.

The worst part was when i stopped and looked at it, and the caliper had gone back to where it was supposed to, and i couldn't see anything wrong. So like an idiot, what did i do?

Yup. Got back in the car and drove another quarter mile getting back up to speed before it did it again.

Worse case scenario, take a similar bolt off the other side and visit a Nissan stealership.

Or find a similar bolt in a place you could survive without for a day or two, like a motor mount, a trans mount, or a parked car.

Don't know much about the area, but apparently farm vehicles are largely metric. Had no problem finding metric hardware at a tractor supply store.

You could"visit" the dealer ship to "look" under the same kind of car on their lot. Make sure you have a propperly sized wrench that will fit in your pocket. Of course no one here would do that, would they?

tractor supply has a great selection of metric bolts and fasteners but there were none within a reasonable drive (and it was raining and I was on the motorcycle, etc).
