1997 Ford F-150, 4.6l V-8.
Cranks, no start. OBD II code is P0232 "fuel pump secondary circuit high" (Or words to that effect.) Tried a different relay, no dice. No fuel pressure present at the rail, which makes me think fuel pump.
Can I get a sanity check from the hive???
IIRC, "circuit high" means short to power somewhere. Can you put 12v directly to the pump and see if it spins?
But your conclusion of something in the fuel system is spot on.
Your ECM is probably not turning the fuel pump on because of that voltage on the secondary circuit. If the relay didn't fix the problem, I'd go chasing wiring damage. Can you access the relay terminals and confirm there's voltage where there shouldn't be?
Truck is still parked at work. Will start chasing voltage at lunch tomorrow. berkeley...
Could it possibly be the fuel pump cutoff switch?
Yesterday when working on the truck, outside air temp was 55 F. This morning, it was 36 F.
I came into work a bit early this morning to berkeley around with it a bit, and decided to try starting it. Lo and behold, it fired up after <5 seconds of cranking. Now I'm really stumped...
Ideas?
The car thinks it's a short and it's affected by heat. I know you don't want it to be, but...
At least you can get it home.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
I got it to a trusted friend who runs a local shop. I'm confident he'll figure it out....
No trouble starting at 57 F on my lunch break.
Truck is back!!!
And the cause was- A bad wire in the fuel pump pigtail. New pump, new filter, and we are on the road again. Thanks to all of you for the pointers and help.
