Trying to diagnose a stalling condition on this car for a friend. '98 2.4 w/auto. Says it stalls over bumps, but I've driven it over some bad roads to no avail. Also claims mostly when early in the drive. Will be starting myself in the AM and driving it. Have checked connections, grounds etc. All is good. Cleared a MAF code (cleaned MAF with MAF cleaner) and a knock sensor code. Have yet to reset.
Second problem is the A/C. Belt noise when engine is revved and the car shifts, but only at high rpm. I can make it happen simply by revving the engine and watching the compressor. Two things are happening: 1. belt squeal, and 2. The compressor clutch kicks out at high revs and reengages making a short "shrikkk"-like sound. (Yes , I made that word up!) Should the clutch disengage on this car like that?
Any ideas?
Just had new cap and rotor installed as there was quite the light show in the wet!
Thanks,
George
