I'm looking for those of you that have purchased aftermarket seats for your vehicles. i am in need of some reviews based on comfort, size, price, quality, etc.
NO RACING SEATS. I'm talking about reclinable seats that are suitable for daily use.
Corbeau
Recaro(not JDM Type R recaro)
Cobra
and so on.
I have a rediculously long torso and a huge head so I don't fit in cars, I don't want the fuel hit of a truck. I love my IS300 but the seats are too small for me at 6'3" 240 lbs. I have a 37" waist, I'm not a big fat dood, just big.
I've been eyeing the Corbeau GTSII, I like the styling, the price but I'm afraid it will be too small.
I'm in Canada and stores here don't carry seats. I just drove around all morning looking for4 some and testing out cars I thought i might fit in to trade my IS300 for, but NO LUCK, I don't fit in anything. Salesman argued with me, the guy at Dodge couldn't believe I didn't fit in a 300 or Charger.
I fit Ok in a RAM truck, but no way am I paying for the fuel! And we're talking used here so Diesels are out due to high costs, even for used.
The best car for me was a 2012 Impreza. The telescoping steering wheel and high roof made it a good fit, but the seats are tiny and uncomfortable.
Please help GRM!
I've seen daily driver Corbeau's and they don't seem to hold up over the long haul.
Is the issue width or head clearance? As you may be able to just do a custom bracket to lower the seat. If it's width, not sure what will work.

37" waist- he's not wide, just long. That doesn't sound right.

The biggest guy I know drives an element. He's 6'7" with tiny legs and still has tons of headroom. Gas mileage is probably similar to your IS. Fun level is probably less.
I have never seen Corbeaus hold up. We use them as "spot chairs" for people running spotlights in the truss over a stage. Everyone I have seen pass through has ripped up
Honda Element SC may not be a bad idea.
I may have to take a look.
Im getting from this post that Corbeaus don't hold up, but are they at all comfortable?
It was funny today sitting in cars and trucks. The best seat I sat in was in a FIAT 500. The worst seat, Mazda 5.
I also fit in a Prius V, but I'd never see a traffic light as the top of the windshield is far too low.
I'm looking forward to getting my 944 out of storage tomorrow, I fit pretty well in that car.

Never heard of the SC so I had to look it up.
From Wiki:
Unlike the other trim packages, the SC has a rigid center console which cannot be removed and which rises above the bottom portion of the seats. Like the rigid seat-level consoles in most other SUVs, this crowds the seat belt receptacle into the seat space, making this trim level less comfortable for larger drivers than the LX and EX models.

Thanks. Sucky.
Maybe I'll just stay home.

I am 6'3" 220lbs with long legs. I was able to make myself fit my '86GTI race car by mounting the Cobra Sebring Pro race seat way back and down, tilted back and then lowering and extending the steering wheel. Most stock cars dont give you that range of adjustment and until I drove the 2010 E550 (we now own one) I never found a car that had the seat adjustment range to make me completely. happy. This is the first car I have driven where my most comfortable position isnt with the seat automatically all the way back, lowered to the bottom and with the seat back tilted well back.
Nothing from Detroit - including our RAM 2500 - has ever fit me well (usually the distance to the pedals is WAY too short), or Japan - the Outback I owned a few years was the best from the PAC rim, but not as good as about anything from Europe - and, until the Merc, Europe - OK a Saab I drove was pretty good but I think Saab is an acquired taste I never developed - nothing from the EU was quite right either.
Years and years ago I remounted Ford buckets in a Mustang by relocating the seat slides further back. As it happened it also lowered the seat some and that solved the legroom and headroom issues. The wheel was originally of the in-your-chest school so it didnt need to be extended, but it did need to be lowered some but it was a single shaft design and didnt easily lend itself to doing that.
Yes, I know this wasnt about "seats" particularly aftermarket seats, but my take is unless you are willing to replace and/or move the mounting brackets, your legroom and headroom comfort wont be improved by a replacement seat and you will need to find a vehicle that was engineered with the room you have in mind. If you are willing to move the seat, and perhaps relocate the steering wheel, then a comfortable (to your butt) stock seat will still work in the new location.

Thanks for the insight, and I know you're correct. Mercedes do fit me well, but I don't have Mercedes money.
The reason I fit so well in my 944 is the fact that I built a custom steering wheel hub and mounted lower seats, but I wasn't losing anything by doing that. If I do the same in my Lexus, I lose the safety of the seat mounted airbag, steering wheel mounted airbag and I'm not sure I'm willing to do that yet. It may be my only choice though.
