My kid sister is looking at this

http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/ctd/1096051924.html

Other than the usual mileage, year, maint. records, etc. Anything she needs to be aware of?

its not a GTI. Its a regular Golf. The GTIs had either the 1.8T or V6. The car in that ad does not have a turbo or V6.

Interestingly it has a GTI badge visible in one of the pictures. I wonder what the deal is.

I lol'd... at you. Even wikipedia has the answer to this for christs sake; yes, it is a GTi. Why they'd call it a GLS GTi in the ad I have no idea (GLS model tended to be full load, but a comparable GTi usually had the same/more options). That naturally aspirated 2.0L in there is 100% correct.

Edit- To clarify a bit more, 2.0L GTi's were offered in 1999.5 and 2000 (mabye 2001, a bit foggy there).

Probably 3rd slowest to metro running on 2 cylinders. But yes, selling a car newer then 1998 with that abominally slow motor is an afront to the car gods!

Wait, I thought all V-dubs were GTI and the 'Zuk's were GTi..... you guys are using them interchangably....

Early Mk4's are plagued with sensor/elect problems. Be prepared to replace the MAF, O2, coilpack, and maybe the cat if any of those have gone bad recently. Other then that they're perfectly slow.

The cat is covered by a 10/100,000 warranty on most 2.0Ls
