I kind of want to go to this, but I haven't seen any NEOhio people at any Ohio rallycrosses this year, which is a giant red flag of suckage given my prior experience with trying to help this region start a series, and the (at the time) utter lack of willing to put any effort into it at all on the part of the people involved. And I don't want to go to what is technically an out of region event and find myself telling them how to run things, because that's just rude.
Plus, what happened at the Ohio leg of the Rallycross Tour still has my fur a bit rubbed backwards. Not discussing in public, maybe if you buy me a few bottles of Sobieski we might discuss it in person.
I had a grand plan to fix my Focus and bring it to this to try rallycross for the first time, but...broke, gotta save up for challenge trip instead.

Both Andrew Grannis (rallyx chair) and Matt Step, both Neohio members were at the tour competing/observing for this upcoming event. I don't expect anyone to drive miles on end to attend a first time event like this. Not sure who/what/where you previously tried to help or problems at the Tour, but were gonna give it our best.

The fairgrounds are really close to me. I'm not currently an SCCA member, but I'm interested. Can I run my stock STI? Would I need to bring my winter tires with? What should I expect in RallyCross? (I've only done track days at Mid-Ohio and PittRace in the past)
In reply to AlcantaraFTW :
It is a new site, so unknown if it will be table smooth and hard, or soft and easily rutted. But people run stock STis all the time. If your winter tires use the same size wheels as stock, or 1" smaller in diameter but the same width, they are Stock legal. In the other Ohio regions there is generally a "n00b allowance" for piddly stuff like that. Get you hooked first
Anyone know if there's a cap?
Got my free helmet today. Debating swapping swmbos snow tires onto to the s10 rims, especially since it looks like it might be damp in the morning.
Actually, now that I don't have to go to summit to get a helmet Saturday maybe I'll run down to Mansfield to grab a pair of snows already on s10 rims from CL.
Well, that happened. And for an event run on a new, unknown site, with like half the field never rallycrossed before, it went extremely smoothly. And by that I mean we didn't have to stop for a half hour every so often to redesign the course, we didn't have any major mechanical issues causing a run stoppage... in fact I think the only red flag thrown was when they sent Dan out bcause they didn't hear my radio call to hold start while we moved something, because my radio died... But that is also why we have red flags and running shoes.
Everybody I talked to had a blast. Of course. Becayse it is rallycross, and fun is what we do. And by "we" I mean everybody, once you've done an event you are part of "we".

...Wait, were you the guy in the S10?
I need to hand it to you, you know how to drive rear drive. Made me smile with pride with every run.
In reply to Knurled. :
Sweet! Sounds like it was a success. Maybe I'll make it to one of the future events
Yea, I was in the s10.
Thanks! I appreciate the compliment, especially from the guy who's runs look like this yet he still whoops everyone in rwd.
It did better than I expected on the tires it was on, they don't have traction on wet pavement so I was expecting no traction offroad. Once we got rid of the grass it was decent if I didn't spin them too hard. Snow tires will help alot. I'm debating if a posi would help, it rotated easily with some left foot brake, a tighter course might be different tho, and I'm sure I lost some time on the start, I had to launch really soft to keep from blowing the tires off.
This was my first official rallyx, and it was everything I could hope for short of stage rally. I dropped from 61s to 47.8 and my last run was my fastest even tho I went wide on the last turn and ended up in the whoops. Knurleds fast run was 40.5 (well 40.01 + 3 cones, tho they only charged him with one ) so I'm still slow, but I beat a Miata and a Volvo 240 wagon
In reply to Dead_Sled :
FWIW, on that 40.010 run, I got kicked sideways way too early to make a corner, and in a rear driver lifting is death, so I kept it pinned and countersteering and prayed to the gods (Toivonen and MacRae) that I'd make it, and I managed to hit the inside cone with the outside of the car, so it was only a +2 instead of +10 penalty.
I should probably shut up and start making videos.
Great first time event today, everything was beyond expectations, 40+ cars, event went smoothly, rain stayed away, and yeah everyone real excited about it, and thanks to Knurled for having faith in us!
In reply to westsidetalon :
Thank everyone who worked hard to pull it off. These things don't just happen, they take effort on the parts of many people, and I saw many people doing a stellar job trying to make this happen.
As opposed to this hacky amateur driving...
