So i was on my way home earlier today and my Accesory belt decided to go missing. Lucily I was only about 15 miles from home. Seeing as the waterpump drives off of the timing belt, my only concern was having sufficient battery charge to keep the engine running till I got home.
Now to the meat of the question. Do I install a new one myself, or just wait till I get into the shop on monday. Being down a car is not too big an issue, so I can wait till the shop gets it done. The main part is how hard is it to put on a new belt? From the looks of it, It seams like a pain in the @$$. Any advice would be nice.
Thanks,
Brian
At least on the SOHC type it shouldnt take more than 20 minutes to fix it. I dont recall if the DOHC is more difficul or not.
ok, so I went back out to look at it, I forgot that the Alt. runs off it's own belt, so basicly, i just have no Power steering.

You just have to undo the 3 bolts that lock the power steering pump, i remember two of them are accessed by reaching in the intake manifold. There's a 1/2" square hole for a breaker bar to pivot the pump. Install the belt, tension it with the breaker bar, and lock it down by tightening the bolts.
Just did it on mine and it was a 20 minute job or so. Fairly easy to do.
You might want to raise up the front and remove the front wheel and plastic fender well stuff to make access a little easier.
BTW, it runs the P/S pump and the A/C pump.
If you're really feeling up to it, now would be the time to go ahead and replace the alternator belt, since the other belt has to come off to access it.

Alt belt was done 2 months ago, so thats not an issue. I'm just letting the shop deal with it.
