I am looking for something to replace the fiesta and I would like it to have 4x4 with low range and sub $30k and new. What options do I have?

Compact/midsize pickup with the smallest engine? Do they still put 4-bangers in new Tacomas? Seems like that would get you there.

Good luck finding one. That's the issues with the Tacoma's at least here it's take what we have on the lot or go somewhere else. And they are all loaded 4 doors.
Jeep, at least in some models.
Are you planning on doing some serious offroading ? If not, you don't need low range.
Jeep Renegade? That seems to tick the boxes.
I would like the jeeps, but I really don't trust FCA quality. I can likely deal with it on the wrangler but it is still hard for me to want to spend money on a FCA vehicle.
I know a F150 reg cab, short bed with the 2.7 and 4x4 gets the gas mileage I am looking for. I am just not sure if I need a truck.
I like the idea of the wrangler just I would prefer it not be made by Jeep. A Suzuki Jimny Sierra checks all my boxes it just isn't sold here.
I would like to do some moderate off-roading.
I was also thinking some kind of Jeep Wrangler with a small engine. The Renegade Trailhawk might be a decent choice. The only new street-legal mass-production vehicles available with 4x4 and low range are:
You'll notice that only the first 4 are sold in the US.

I am interested in the new jl wrangler with the Turbo 4cyl they are putting in it but there are no gas mileage numbers or prices yet.
Depending on where you live and how much comfort you want, a UTV/side-by-side with a full cabin could be an option. That's what I'd like if I had to replace the Samurai.
There's a Honda Pioneer like this competing in the offroad rally here, it's in a league of its own in offroad speed, obstacle clearance capability is similar to a lightly modded Samurai.
Admittedly none of them have been single cabs but I've spent significant seat time in 2.7L ecoboost trucks and I've never seen higher that 16.5 MPG in real world usage. I do have a fairly heavy right foot and a lot of the driving was done with the cruise control set at 80 MPH so there's room for improvement just from driving style but I'm skeptical that an actual 22 MPG is achievable in any configuration without hypermiling techniques.
Having said (or typed) all of that. I think those are impressive motors and I really like the trucks that they're in. If I didn't need a little more towing capacity than they offer I'd be looking at them to replace my faithful 7.3L Powerstroke.

Is that a yes or a no? I'd daily one. Have a friend who does (some cheapo Chinese side-by-side)

Your list is missing just about every modern pickup truck... Not every variant gets a 2 speed transfer case, but a lot do.
List updated...I didn't think of a gigantic American pickup with relatively low ground clearance, suspension travel, and hilariously bad obstacle clearance capability (especially breakover angles LOL) as being offroad-capable.

Only Tennessee can register and tag sxs's and they have the same limits as mopeds aka can't be on roads with speed limits over 45mph.
I can get a reg cab short bed 5.0 f150 4x4 for $27k thats not too bad. But I doubt it would get my gas mileage requirement.
Foresters not from the United States used to have a low range option.
Do they still make them? Could you import a trans for one already stateside?

At the price point of the Colorado I would rather get a 1/2 ton since the only real difference is size.
