What is the cheapest car on new car lots in the US?
Nissan Versa used to be the clear winner there, not sure if it still is.
It is probably a good example of why the elio car won't sell
What about the KIA? I thought you could walk away with a brand new one for 9,999?
I'm all about these startups. Maybe not the government funding, but only maybe not on that (think NASA). My guess is we will see larger and larger numbers of the startups until one of them hits on something big. The fact that they even exist means there is significant current opportunity in filling the open niches left by the current product offering in the industry.
You don't ever end up with anything new and cool if you keep trying to make the same thing everyone already buys.
Personally, I think parking is the biggest PITA for city dwellers, so if you can make a device that solves that problem...

there is competition close to it, but the Versa still holds the E36 M3box crown.

I've been following Elio for some time now. I'm still interested. I personally don't think they'll be around long to see a second model, or an update to this one But I really don't care. It appears they are delivering on the promise they started out with. That's better than the big 2.5 have done in lots of cases. My only issue really is the winter time. If there's snow, you'll often find two tracks in each lane that is kinda clear, with a big pile up of sleet, snow, and just crap in the middle lane. Same goes for light rain. The middle of the lane is where you'll find most oil build up. This car is a tail dragger. I wonder what kind of directional stability it'll have in those conditions. I might have to make a trip down to Livonia for a look-see and a drive soon.
I wonder how good an alternative it would be in salt states to the rust-free CRX/Miata/Neon/E30 none of us can find. At $6800, it's not that much more expensive than a lot of secondhand sporty machinery.

Yeah, it looks like a blast to drive, but I wonder if it's really any fun. I'm a little disappointed with the HP, but I don't think it weighs much more than my wallet.
