So my $1200 Answer is fairly quiet. I'd like to add some noise, I've been driving this Abarth for awhile. However I do not want to sound like the kid down the street with the straight-piped Civic...
It has a Raceland header and Magnaflow cat, seems like it's just missing a good muffler to be complete. Maybe even hit 100hp?
I'm hoping someone has recommendations for a muffler for an NA that has a bit of oomf, nothing crazy. I've seen a few options on Moss, Goodwin and (name escapes me at work).
Racing Beat? I had an eBay header, catless midpipe and Racing Beat muffler on my NA track rat. Wasn't overly loud, sounded nice. Racing Beat is very well made, but also on the heavy side.
When I checked a few years ago, and FM had a really nice one. Not sure if they still do- but I wish I bought it back then.

You're not going to get huge power out of one, but a muffler will make the car sound good which will make it seem faster which is kinda the fun part. Also, if you base the amount you're willing to spend on the purchase price of the car, you will end up with a piece of junk.

And I paid $1200 for the car, I can afford a decent muffler and still hit $2021 if I make it next year.
I'd buy a Thermal Research and Development muffler, and have your local exhaust shop weld it in.
I wouldn't be spending the money to put a spiffy new exhaust on a car that cost much.

Kind of depends on the plans of the car for that kind of blanket statement.
Like keeping the car for a long time is different than just one challenge. I have no doubt that my Miata is not worth a lot- rust and whatnot- but I do plan on putting good money down because I intend to keep the car another 2 decades.
I have a cat back exhaust that I got for free from a guy that is yours if you want it. It would need a muffler welded in to not be obnoxious though.
My old NA had a RB header and full FM exhaust (high flow cat and all). It sounded about as good as you could get a 1.8 4 banger to sound. And it will last for the life of your car, and be transferable to the next one after that.
I put glass packs on a couple of mine in the past. They're cheap and sound good but are a bit loud.

I've deleted the stock muffler which sounded good and saved a bunch of weight, and now have the Raodstersport 3 back from an ebay header and like it much better. Stockish 1.8

It's $2000 now. The dollar per year thing was dropped.
The hard part about exhausts/mufflers for an NA/NB Miata is avoiding rasp (you'll get that if you just run a resonator) and avoiding a resonance at around 3000 rpm. Best way to avoid both is to install a turbo :) But that will be the risk if you try to roll your own or if you buy from someone who's not a specialist with the associated attention to detail.

Oh, tell me about it ... my Exocet with a mostly stock 1.6 has an Enthuzacar constructed exhaust on it, no cat, with a single Magnaflow muffler. Nicely constructed system made from great materials, but holy raspiness, Batman. I think I need to find a resonator that fits where the cat would go, yet still clears the floorpan. Or get a turbo.
I dont recall the old spec exhaust I made being raspy. Sure as hell sounded worlds better that old SD stuff.
