I gave you a +1, because “having one car is like fishing without beer" is funny as hell. Even though I don't like fishing, I get the analogy.

Noted. What I thought was fairly tame driving was probably still too much.
Also, I only have one car, because I have 5 motorcycles. Priorities and all that...
Maybe a nicer car instead of a Triumph for my next purchase.
Can't relate. The wife compares everything to a Miata as her point of reference. Which makes it really hard to find something with an acceptable shifter/clutch.
We've got a standing agreement that if a certain Miata comes up for sale, we'll buy it no questions asked, regardless of what vehicles we currently have.

not a problem.
I know this thread is mainly a joke, but in all seriousness, if the girl has a problem with your car and your hobby, you're just wasting your time and setting yourselves up for failure and heartache later.
Someone earlier said they traded a car for a girlfriend and still have the car. Well, I traded a wife for a car and still have the car. And I don't regret that one bit.

Legs together, lift them up and over the sill and rotate them over to the ground/curb, use both arms to leverage your way out of the car or take your gentleman's hand. Being a gentleman and going around to help them out is a good idea and can win some points, also parking where they can open the door fully helps.
Mine's problem is that she's pretty short and has a difficult time with that and how the seats on the D are- honestly, unless she's outright holding it down there's no way any remotely tight skirt that's above the knees isn't going to ride up a fair bit. With that car I'm ALWAYS over there to help her in and out- for both courteous and selfish reasons.
I do my best to open and close doors for her regardless, but given how touchy the gull-wings are with the annoying double latches I'm much happier opening/closing them myself. And she also can't reach the door pulls on them when they're open to close them when she's in the passenger seat. That and I get to enjoy the view when her skirt rides up on her legs.
My girlfriend (now wife) didn't complain about my rusty, old, brown & gold van when we were dating, so clearly she doesn't mind old/homeless people cars, and she would trade her G20 for a Miata or FRS in a heart beat if we could. I put a ring on that one ASAP.

Sorry, man.

Problem solved: Buy an old Triumph (I'm thinking TR3), and the Miata will seem great in comparison.
In reply to yamaha:
She has a sister in Missouri, but she's the kind of person who once waited until her new corolla ran funny to figure out what maintenance was. In related news, a new corolla can go 40k miles on original oil before it starts acting funny. No news yet on the long term effects.

Ha. I meant Triumph motorcycle, but point taken.

To quote someone I knew that bought a new Hyundai and drove it 75k miles without an oil change, "it was a new car, they don't need oil changes." Yes, the oil came out in chunks, it was presumably pieces of the internals. And of course it knocked and barely ran.
To the original post, I used to date a girl that HATED the Miata and refused to ride in it. She considered them gay and said any guy that drives a Miata is not manly enough for her. No, we didn't date long. She drove a Malibu. I think that's all you really have to say.
Of course my wife didn't like it either, but mainly because she thought you were going to die every time you drove it. It didn't help that you were run off the road a lot because no one saw you. She absolutely loves the 370, and liked the 944 too, until it stranded her once.

I agree. Seems sometimes the significant others feel that they can "change" you and you'll be more "civilized" once you're locked down. They just don't seem to understand the E36 M3ty cars don't go away.
Nowadays, when I find a $600 240DL on craigslist, Mrs. Unevolved moves straight to bartering what she gets in return.
In reply to Rufledt:
O.o
Beats the one I had had last year.... Her- "My oil light is flashing, is that bad?"
Me - "Well have you stopped to check the oil?"
Her - "But I just changed it, so the car must be lying to me".
Me - ...... .
Needless to say, she had done her first oil change but never tightened down the filter cap on her cobalt. By the time she brought it up, I could hear rod knock from a 1/4mi away. I'm amazed that rod bearings and 15w40 made a flat spotted crank quiet down. . Anything is an improvement over that.
Maybe the miata is opportunity cost for a really hot great cook with family money. I do not have enough information to have an informed opinion.
I don't like Miatas, but I can't imagine refusing a ride in one if I liked hanging out with the driver. Sounds like the problem is the passenger, not the car.
My girlfriend (now wife) drove a purple Taurus when we started dating, which I hated. I poked fun and helped open her eyes to the world of not-sucky cars, but I certainly didn't refuse going for a drive when she asked to.
Find a girl who likes you.

Yeah, it's probably tough when both your wife and your girlfriend hate your Miata. Maybe you should get them together and they can work through their car issues.

Don't forget the video camera, and if they stray off topic by asking you about the other lady, just remind them to stay on topic, the issue here is the Miata. The infidelity is between you and your lawyer.
I'm guessing the conversation would end with some variant of "I'm glad you like that stupid car, because you'll be sleeping in it from now on!"
In 27 years of marriage, I can count on MAYBE two hands the number of times I've driven Toyman anywhere outside of autocrosses. I can't imagine as a girlfriend taking that "tone" with a boyfriend but maybe that's just me. I kind of agree with HWMBO'ed that I think there would be an "ex" in that statement.
My wife wasn't sold on the Mustang until she drove it. I just bought some rims for it and she said those will look nice on the 'Stang.
Here's a video of her leaving the house. Notice wheel spin...

You, sir, are one lucky man. I remember my mom pulling that same move once picking me up from day care in her supra. It was one of those borderline 'is there room to pull out or should I wait until the cars pass' moments. her choice was to floor it and make sure the turbo still worked. It did, but the tires weren't up to her agressive clutch work... The other kids were outside on the playground. That won me some coolness points, for sure.
