So what's the deal with the user name? I have a certain illness that leads me to recklessly buy 80s Chrysler products.

Should make a good vehicle for her, provided you stay away from the early ('03-'04) automatic ones. I've heard the CVT and Aisin 5-speed are not so good... Otherwise, Ions are super easy to work on and cheap to maintain.

Lol. Well, I haven't owner any turbo Mopars yet. About 10 years ago I really wanted one for my first car, but ended up having a friend talk me into DSM's. I used "shelbyz" as my user name to poke around on DSMtuners.com and I use it for every other forum I sign onto.

I still would like to own one or more. In fact, its probably next on my list. However, I'm working toward being a first time home owner so buying vehicles isn't a priority right now.

I also know that there's that unwritten law that says you can't just own one....

Welcome to the best car-related forum on the internet. Seriously!

Like others have said, prepare to be assimilated into the collective. You will lose brand loyalty and start to feel the itch for weird, wonderful, and cheap cars, and you will buy them. Oh yes, you will buy them!

I joined the forum while farting around in my hotel room at the $2009 Challenge while looking for photo updates of the festivities. I was a dyed in the wool Subaru WRX and vintage Pontiac guy. Now I don't own any Subarus, I still have a vintage Pontiac, but I now own a Turbo Dodge that I found right here in the $20xx Classifieds. And it wasn't even in Atlanta! (you'll figure that joke out later) I also own a Mazda 3 and a Dakota, and have strange urges to buy Alfas, Saabs, Turbo Probes/MX6's, Volvos, 2wd Jeep Cherokees, etc. And I want them all for under $2k and want them to go really, really fast.

Good luck, and if you can, go to the Challenge someday. It will change you.

I get those odd automotive urges too.... for all the wrong vehicles. Turbo Dodges, all sorts of FWD Mazdas and "Fazdas", XR4Ti's, Dakota R/T's, Geo's, etc.

WRONG vehicles? Poke around a bit. I think you'll find that you're among friends here. All of those (with the possible exception of the Dakota R/T) have more than one person on the board who is a vocal expert on them.

And before you guys jump down my throat, Lesley's Dak was NOT an R/T to begin with, IIRC.

I also had a buddy who tried to revive a '91 Prizm GSi but it was too rusty and was scrapped. After I get rid of my Saturn I'm going to have some cash to play around with, and I'll have to come in here and ask for suggestions.

I believe i sold your friend a downpipe for his Probe. I distinctly remember him picking it up in Indy in a modded Prizm.

Hey, i guess i did! I even said the same thing about a year ago! At least i'm consistent.

I had a buddy that was into 1G Probes for a while and that's what got me into Fazdas. He ended up owning 2 5spd '89 GT's, a '90 AT GT and a '91 5spd LX with a Vulcan 3.0. All were fun cars. He also got his Fazda jollies with a $450 93 Festiva. I got my hands dirty on all of them.

I had another buddy who was about to trade me a mint running/driving 92 or 93 Capri XR2 for my broken DSM, but his Dad ended up selling it to a friend. I furiously researched what aftermarket still remained for the B6T and had mapped out a plan of attack to turn the car into an interesting fun street car.

I think the first one I'll tackle however, is probably going to be the long standing Turbo Dodge itch I've had. The SDAC's (Shelby Dodge Automotive Club) 22nd annual gathering was in the Detroit area this year and I was in heaven. The hotel they reserved was right across the street from my G/F's neighborhood and we went over and walked the lot 3 of the 4/5 nights they stayed. We also went to the car show they held at the Chrysler Museum and it was sweet.

Lol. I can't remember exact details, but I do remember him making a road trip to Indy with his G/F for some thing car related. I know at somepoint he bought a custom made o2 housing and downpipe for it. IIRC he cut the down pipe in half and put a turn down on it... He ended up giving up on that poor car. He had it for 2 years and barely drove it. It sat around while he waited for his VJ11/T-bird hybrid to be professionally built, then once the turbo went on the clutch took a E36 M3. He contemplated what to do about the clutch for months. I talked him into making a weekend out of it and he ordered a lightly used South Bend DXD that we threw on. The car felt good at 19/20psi, but within the week it was back on the road, it started burning oil BAD. Swapped a couple on stock turbo's on and nothing changed. At that point he wasn't into it anymore. In the time he contemplated the clutch he had bought an LS1 F-body to do his fast car dirty work, and IIRC the weekend we did the clutch he towed home a complete 87 Regal T-Type that needed total restoration. He got that Buick for $800. It was sitting in his GF's neighbors driveway for year without moving and he talked the guy into giving it to him for $800... I think the tow truck guy offered my buddy a little more afterwards. The Probe ended up CL, where he expected to get a few hundred bucks for it. Some kid claimed he knew why it was burning oil, and offered a 4x4 Bronco he was trying to get $3500 for in exchange... Needless to say he went with the trade. A couple months later, he traded the Bronco for a nicer newer F250 Superduty....

The Geo was a whole nother story.... :D

Then you probably saw me. I was hanging out around a dark green shelby charger with a DC top mount kit on it. That was another chapter member's car, I was car-less this year. Go every year you can afford to, it's always a blast.
