New old golfs?

I had no idea. Seems like the 3rd world may be a good source of "new old stock" parts. Probably cheap too. I know that a lot of "old designs" do get carried on for awhile after the US and Europe discontinue them. Could be a great niche market, Bringing over whole cars could be an issue, but rust free body parts, oh yeah!

Of course theres the whole issue of having a friend overseas...

Does this mean there are lot's of panels for restoring Mk I's Some one needs to start importing them

I remember reading about Mk2 Golf owners, maybe it was friedgreencorrado, complaining of a huge amount really cheap and low quality replacement parts.

Turns out VW just released the Mk2 platform in China.

Cheap parts are better than no parts.

I wouldn't mind having a brand new Mk1Golf.

Site lists the top of the line 1.6i asR113,500, which is ~$15k in USD.

I think there are a lot better alternatives in the new car scene for $15k.

I presume everybody knows that new Mk4 Golfs (and, until last year, Jettas) are freely available in Canada as Citys. I believe we get them from Brazil.

Yeah, they've made the MKII platform for a long time in China, they just change the front and rear bumpers/sheet metal to mimic the current generation in the rest of the world. I know they at least had MKII chassis that looked like MKII's, MKIII's, and MKIV's. Not sure about V yet.

I know I've seen more strange variations of the MKII Jetta from China, but that's all I can come up with right now.
