This doesn't seem right.

I replaced a piston on a non running engine, now there is a "clack" I'm chasing. What are the chances this is the culprit?

I'm almost positive this is the cylinder that is making the noise. (Sorry for the cell phone camera)

I'd say that's it. That a huge amount of clearance for a piston.

That piston is way too small for that bore. If you ran it like that, chances are the bore is now out of round and will need to be bored then four new pistons fitted.

Thats the most piston slap ive ever seen and I run a slappy clappy volvo redblock. My guess is you have a stock sized piston in an overbored hole. Bust out the calipers/mics and snap gauges if you got em.

I measured the hole, and the old piston, they're both standard sized. This one is just too small I guess... Ring gap is good (also std size).

I did run it like that, but only a few blocks. I'll mic the bore next time I'm in there. Looks like I'll be trying to make use of the old piston again.

Thanks everyone!
