I pulled my original post since Solomatters finally got their post out
Finally got a decently open class for things besides American cars. Might bring me back into the fold of autocross.

So, that's what... the original Tesla Roadster, and the new Taycan? Or do we expect EV conversions to be legal?
Yes, big news. I saw the run order chatter on my phone as heading to bed. It might mean more time at the event, but I like the idea of getting a full day to walk. In the past, prep for that second day always felt way rushed.
Huh, that sounds like the RallyCross class that Chris Hastings proposed a while back, that was basically as anything-goes as Modified is, except you had to run nonaggressive tires (no rally tires or tires with M&S ratings).
And for the same reason. We were getting a decent number of people who wanted to come play but their cars fit that description.
Whooo! Guess I need to order some new race numbers. I'm excited. I think the XS classes will help with some new member retention, at least in my region. WE had a lot of people show up over the years with cars that they had already built just for street use, and then they got jammed up into A/SP and would quit after an event or two. I'd run into them at a car show and they'd say "Well, I had fun. but I got sick of coming in dead last because I was in some crazy class. So then my options were either get a new car, demod my car or ruin my car. So I quit."

Yes? I think more than a few people were shooting for FWD/AWD/RWD split but we'll see how it goes. My concern is that they just created a new place for Miatas to compete and the rest of us to watch them compete. We'll see. Locally we have a class called STO which is basically 200TW and whatever modifications you feel like as long as it's mostly a street car. Lots of us play there, but competing is a game for Miatas and and Exige and maybe an EVO or two. I wouldn't be surprised to see that class get absorbed this year. Interesting times.

I think, at least in my region, its going to turn into a WRX/STi playground. Most of the "go straight to SP/SM" guys in my area are guys with Subaru boost buggies.

Hell, I'm thinkin' I might autocross my Volvo (AWD boost buggy). Or my Quantum if it gets finished this year (AWD boost buggy). Or my rallycross RX-7 just for the complete E36 M3s and grins of it.
Last time I autocrossed at an official SCCA event, I was classed in FM due to the heavy suspension modifications on the rallycross car, and I was on 15 year old dry rotted allseason 185/70-13s. It was also raining. I won a class of one, and had the slowest "winning" time of any class. They didn't bother with a trophy or even calling my name.
Every other autocross I've been to was an informal non-scoring event like the BeaveRun July 4th Autocross or a local series attached to an import show where the cones were literally 4" high and they just told you your time after the finish, no scoring. Those were all way more fun.

Reminds me of my favorite "autocross" last year. They just set 4 or 5 cars loose on the Lime Rock Park autocross last year for 6 minutes at a time, no timing gear, no cones, no rules other than "don't crash and don't be dumb" no winners or trophies. My friend and I had an awesome dog fight with my Miata and his modded Abarth 500.

If they do that again this year, let me know. Sounds like a complete blast.
I also created an Import CAM Facebook group months ago and converted it to the new name this morning.

EV Conversions will not be legal EV-X is going to basically be EV's with suspension and some other mods... no mods to the drivetrain allowed.
Too early for April Fools, so what's the catch on XS class? Hope to see the rule set out soon so I can see where the edge will be as I really don't want to play the Hoosier game.

Basically anything goes CAM for everyone on 200 tw street tires. I'm gonna build an S-10 X-TREME for the double points!
I love that they went with "Xtreme" instead of "Extreme." Really gives it that awesome '90s vibe. I just hope there isn't some rule that my car gets caught out on that either prevents me from running there or having to demod my car. The only thing I could see being a problem is the Blackbird Fabworx rear spoiler.
I gotta look into CAM rules, but hopefully forced induction is acceptable.
Edit: and it is acceptable under CAM.
In reply to captainawesome :
If they did not allow forced induction (or engine swaps) it would make it a very pointless class.

Now that you mention the S10, I don't see any details of domestics being restricted from this new class. Granted this is just a quick blurb while we wait on the salacious details, but it certainly would be silly to double up classes for domestics.

Agreed. I'm now anxiously awaiting the official rules before committing to any new mods.
