New "Mk7"

...at least the interwebs says so:
links: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2013/03/volkswagen-brings-golf-gtd-to-america/
"The new GTD is a bit down on horsepower compared to the GTI – 182 horsepower versus 220 – but crushes the 2.0T car with its 280 lb-ft of torque. Powertrains aside, the GTD should have a chassis more closely set up to GTI standards rather than the civilian-spec Golf TDI. The only downside will be the wait – the North American GTD won’t be available until model year 2015..."
VWoA has a current mk6 Euro spec GTD in the states and they've been parading it around the car rags, good move ahead of the announcement to build up a little fanboi drool: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/driven/1211_2014_volkswagen_gtd/

current (old... not available in US) mk6 GTD

Make mine a 4-door with a proper manual trans. I love my current mk4 TDI, but this one might just get me back in a showroom.
That is a VW I would rock. 4-door and maual are only two preferences.
It's about time they figured out that we like torque and MPG with our handling

Good idea on paper, gonna pass on VW reliability in person though.
I saw one of these running around woodward dream cruise this past year with M plates on it, that same color lime green.
Something something minivan something something 3500lb something something blah.
Sweet, now all we need is Ford, Chevy, Mazda, Honda and Toyota to compete with them for dominance of the diesel hot-hatch. They won't, and we'll all suffer.
But diesels are so boring to drive!
I like it, but past VW ownership and all the horrors that ensued will most likely keep me away.
From what I gather when it comes to VW diesels, there is a 50/50 chance of either getting the best and most reliable car ever, or you get a genuine POS that will spend most of its life at the dealer getting fixed.

Sweet. How does a new Golf fit into the hot-hatch category?
I'm really sorry, but I can't fathom any car that huge to be "hot hatch". I think of cars like the original GTI, or even the A2 chassis, or modern cars like the Mini and 500. The Golf is a whole size class larger than that.
I'm not suggesting that it wouldn't be a neat bit of kit, but a hot hatch it won't be. VW is too married to the super-luxury, divorce-the-driver-from-the-road mentality that has infected German car design.

That is one hell of a clever way of describing current numbness of newer German cars.

All cars are bigger now.
I'm thinking the size it's become with 4 doors, fold down seats, and a hatch will make it a brilliant DD and family hauler for my 2 young kids when needed, unlike the multitude of people who think they need a ginormous Canyonero the minute a kid is born. All the hatchback practicality, all the TDI efficiency and grunt, and all the GTI goodies (and aftermarket).
This will not be the next great track car, but a great DD it just may be.
please give us the choice of either 2 or 4 doors.
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
Yeah, I like the look of the 2 door but for daily use I want a 5 door hatch.
Meh.
Another uninteresting choice in a sea of uninteresting choices. It will be too expensive anyway.

tell me about the uninterestingness in todays lineup from all manufacturers. Because I feel like I need to ditch this WRX, I've been searching every manufacturers lineup and doing immense research because A) I will be biting the bullet on some negative equity B) the fiancee says you need to pick a car and stay with it C) I actually want to be content with a car so I can finally pay one off lol otherwise I'm gonna end up in another f-body and I will have to make it look better than my last one.
My conclusion is: Cars are really f'ing expensive and 90% of vehicles offered for sale (new) are downright boring.
