This past Saturday I picked up a mostly purple 93 Legacy SS with 201k miles on the clock. I have been driving it for 2 days now and can easily say that I LOVE THIS CAR!! Easily the coolest beater I have ever owned. For those that don't know, this car has a 2.2L SOHC closed deck motor in it. That's right, there is a larger turbo in this car's future. I will also be doing a phase II head swap to ditch the hydraulic lifters for roller rockers and better flowing ports+5mm (!!) larger intake valves.
It desperately needs new shifter bushings and both motor mounts are completely separated, so yesterday I ordered the STi group N mounts and Turn in Concepts shifter bushings. There is also a serious fluid leak(I think power steering) in the engine bay leaking oil down onto the crossmember that needs to be tracked down.
Well, on to the pictures!
It's rough around the edges, but the interior is immaculate!! well, minus these little cuts in the seats...
I think Ill be looking for some to replace those as all the foam is still pretty supportive.
That's all for now.

I love the old legacy turbos! Nice ride!
What kind of power potential do these things have with basic bolt ons, and what you've got planned?
Nice Leg...
All of them up here are starting to rust away :(
If you don't already belong, http://bbs.legacycentral.org/ has everything you need to know about the first gen Leg's.
Power potential is around 350hp on stock internals before you start bending rods, but the crank and block are good for much more. The stock turbo isn't going to get you there though; it's a tiny little VF11

Yeah I'm on those boards, but they are extrememly hard to read through.
Looks like it "classes-up" the neighborhood.

Hrmmm... Subaru's F2T?
What turbo are you going to upgrade to? Better engine management needed or is it primitive enough that it'll compensate to a fairly large degree?
In reply to 93celicaGT2:
It will compensate up to 13lbs of boost, where fuel cut kicks in. I am still looking into tuning options as most of the Legacy owners use a Revtronix chip, but I'm not sure if that's tuneable or not. The factory ECU apparently has incredible knock correction circuitry built in.

What the hell is with those cuts in the seat?
Jilted lover? Someone owed someone money? Ex drug-runner that got caught? Better "exhaust flow" during long road-trips when your gut is churning with trucker food?

And this thing still has that uber-cool boxer sound, doesn't it...
I hate this board sometimes. Off to go look for turbo legacys.
How robust are the drivetrains?
And there's no turbo 5spd wagons? BUMMER!
I'm looking at a 91-93 Turbo Sedan, right?
are they awd cars then? or fwd only?

The turbos are all AWD. The L and LS trims came in FWD or AWD.
This thing has 3 catalytic converters and a cool boxer sound. When I put the new downpipe and cat-back on, it will have a scary boxer sound The turbo cars are all AWD. There were some FWD cars but they are easily converted. The wagons can have the TCU modified to run full line pressure as well
I'm not quite sure how robust the drivetrains are, though it does have 3 viscous LSD's under it. The 2nd gear synchros are a bit worn, but that usually happens around the 100k mile mark, and this has double that so I'm not too worried about it right now. I'm double clutchin and granny shifting right now.
And they seem to be near impossible to find.... go figure.
There was an automatic in Louisville a couple months ago for dirt cheap, but i guess i didn't realize exactly what it was at that time.
Find me one!!!!!!!!

FYI, if you are heading to NJ anytime soon we are parting out a 93 Legacy wagon that dontated its engine to the Wartburg. We've got some nice seats here you could probably use but shipping might be cost prohibitive.
If you need anything else off the car let me know, we're selling off as much as we can before the scrap man comes and gets it.

Are the seats of the same style?

I dont think so. They are just standard grey Legacy seats, they appear to be lighter in color than what is left of the one in your photo.
I love it. I have wanted an early Legacy with an STi swap with Rothmans livery for a few years now.
Looks like an old OZ Chronos.

But a 5 spd swap is super easy. With any Legacy, Impreza or Forester from 90 to present able to give up it's shiftiness...
